I’m living in nursing home [NH] with about 100 rooms, each with TV. The NH subscribes to Dish to deliver programs to these rooms. Periodically, there is a meeting or DVD played. Most of the patients are confined to their room and cannot view these events.
Is it possible to have a private channel so that these events can be viewed in their rooms? Ideally, it would be an unused Dish channel.
Basically, I'm trying to improve the lives of other patients in this facility. Currently, there is a Veterans Day celebration; most cannot attend. It should be possible for them to see and hear these types of activities. A solution could be extended to other nursing homes.

Hi, I think you may be on the wrong forum (this site discusses TV presentation and what not) and from your references to Dish I presume you're somewhere in the US.

I suggest you (or preferably the home) looks into a communal setup. These require one dish that can be piped to the rooms, then each room just needs its own box. The viewer then picks what they want to watch. I don't know how the satellite system works in America but it's quite common here in the UK, especially on high-rise flats, communal blocks and what not.

Of course having a communal set up for 100 rooms may be very expensive. Again, I don't know what's classed as "expensive" in America for TVs and satellite reception.

Surely some kind of hotel-style setup could also work?

I'm sure we can help to some certain though and this forum is technical so not entirely out of place.

Would suggest you talk to whoever installed your Dish system, as I suspect it is a commercial install (as used in hotels etc.) rather than lots of individual domestic set-ups. The approach required for the former is very different to that for the latter.

I'll contact DISH with permission of NH director. Thank you.
