My Sky+HD box has just updated itself and the EPG, Services and TV guide screens have had a refresh.

Sadly I can't do any screengrabs at the moment - has anyone elses updated to the new interface yet?

Not yet for me, I understand it's being rolled out to all Sky HD users within the next couple of months. It's mainly the front/home screen that's changed hasn't it? The big push is the On Demand side of things.

It's on the DR stream now so you can force the update if you wish. It's nothing radically different, much more on demand stuff on the home page. A nice addition is a progress bar on recorded shows listed in your planner so you can see how much you've watched them.

'Push'? It's now unavoidable! On demand 'tiles' now take up half the home page screen.
Although, they have made the mini tv box much bigger. It's no longer lost at the top right hand side of the screen looking like a moving postage stamp.

And below, tells you the channel you're watching.

Here's what it looks like, Stuart had commented on it in the BBC News thread.

The services screen has also had an overhaul, but its not pictured here...

Problem now solved . . . I only have 1 BBC News Channel again . . .

On a slight tangent, I'm rather liking this improved EPG design . . .

I seem to remember voting on one of these designs a few months back.

Ooh I do like that. I quite like the way that OD is more prominent, reminds me of Sky Q

What I hate is how my Samsung box is incompatible with this update and any incoming updates. It's like Sky are like Apple, telling you to 'upgrade'

Well it's been the case since R011 and the writing was always on the wall when Sky started taking over the production of the boxes. Since discontinuing support for the older boxes they only have to maintain and enhance one firmware version, since it's shared between the 890/895 boxes.

Anyway you can get the supported boxes for peanuts second-hand and do a manual install yourself. The DRX890 is probably the best bet long term wise because they came with a 500Gb hard drive as standard but you can stick a 2Tb drive in them, but only 250Gb is reserved on the DRX890 for the Showtime/Pushed stuff, whereas if you got the later box with 2Tb as standard, you lose a quarter of the space for Showtime as opposed to 12% on the older box with the bigger drive.

I had this update a few weeks ago. It's really improved the performance of it, quite impressive that a box I got for nothing 6 years ago is still updated in this way despite a new platform having arrived. Meanwhile in Virgin land, just about everything on their TiVo service creaks along and other boxes are still on the same firmware they had 9 years ago.

Virgin have awful software on their boxes far too slow, it's unacceptable!

I'll certainly agree with that. My Cisco TiVo box is beyond abysmal. Is there any difference though between the Samsung TiVo and the Cisco TiVo? Even for streaming HD, the 10MB connection inside the box isn't fast enough...
