I hope someone knows more than me about this kind of stuff: I need to extract/export a frame from an old .avi file as high resolution as possible, it will be for print. I have no idea what software to use for this...?

Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks

What video player or video editor do you have?

Thanks for replying whoiam989.

I'm on a mac so I have the free ones, quicktime, VLC player and iMovie. I coulnd't work out how to do this with iMovie... I really needs to be a decent quality because it's supposed to go on a printed card and the printers need it in a high resolution (300 dpi). Doesn't have to be massive size, but good resolution... if that makes any sense Very Happy Not really my area of expertise!

Try Gom Player at gomplayer.com - when playing the video stop on the frame you want, then press Ctrl+E to take a screenshot. It'll be saved in your My Documents folder in a directory labelled GomPlayer.

I use it for TV Live, and it's very very good.

In VLC if you right click then snapshot it will take a picture of the current frame for you. You can use the letter 'E' to move to the desired frame. Search your finder for vlc or navigate to your pictures folder where they are usually saved.

I use Media Player Classic. You can pause and move the video to where you want to capture the frame by using keyboard shortcut Alt+I.

Indeed, just make sure the settings are set to 'png' instead of JPG, for the highest quality.
