I've had Sky since 2011, cancelling every year as my discount ends. In February my last offer, which was 12 months half price (+ £100 credit) ended so I cancelled. I actually didn't intend to accept a similar offer again, because I don't see it as worth it even at that and I'd bought a Freesat Freetime PVR; but surprisingly I got a call about a week after my service was terminated offering 60% off for 12 months + another £100 credit. Whether or not I keep the service once that credit runs out in September, I don't know.

From what I was reading last week I think they've toned down the retentions offers lately, hence why the churn rate has increased. Interesting to see how long they'll take this stance for.

Incidentally, the retention deals I was offered were 25% off for 9 months; then 35% off for 12 months; then 50% off for 12 months.

I suspect there is more legroom in the retentions department than they like to make out, and it looks better in the subscriber figures to have people on there, albeit with an %x discount, rather than have them appear in the churn rate.

Especially as there is essentially no cost associated with one person's subscription, other than the pennies they might have had in wholesale revenue from taking a subscription from a competitor offering Sky channels.

There's the cost of a new Digibox and an installer visit, which is presumably more than the tenner setup fee.

The Sky+HD box apparently costs £299 and and installer visit is £110.

Since when? Sky were only charging £65 to the end-user as of last year to come out and do whatever.

I moved house last year and I paid £25 for my engineers visit, in fact two engineers came, and not that much needed to be done, quite surprised it can be so much more.

That's probably an undiscounted price for the box, dish, and some cabling. I received a new one and only had to pay the £10 setup fee.

It what it shows as on my bill. I've just swapped from Virgin Media to Sky because the Virgin signal kept dropping out because the cabinet in the street kept flooding.

It was heavily discounted and I only paid £10 for it though but those were the prices showing on the bill as "standard set up"
