Please stop saying all these words in an attempt to sound vaguely intelligent. I don't think a thread in the newsroom is really necessary for your little school project...

What big words? Laughing If a mod deems it not right for The Newsroom then fine, this topic can be expanded to any creative camera shots.

Yep! Blackboards (or chalkboards as they have to be called!!) are still around, just aren't a fixture in every classroom, though a teacher can wheel one in. Now we're moving over to SMART Notebook (a massive blank canvas for the interactive board where dynamic active elements can be put alongside work), Glow and RM Unify (Email and Sharing Resources), Interactive Whiteboards, Plasma's and Tables, Prezi's (New way of presenting) and tablets (so the teacher can present from the side of the class or the back etc)

Firstly, the blackboard/chalkboard thing is a stupid lie perpetuated by idiots. Same with brainstorming, and various other examples.

Secondly, things like SMART Notebook, and products from its superior competitor Promethean, have been around for over a decade. In many cases, they were sited next to traditional whiteboards (which, funnily enought, isn't one of the apocryphal banned words).

Thirdly, the changes you describe are not universal.

Our school still calls it blackboards internally, but if inspectors/principals are in the classroom they'll refer to it as a chalk board

We have one Promethan board in the school but, somehow it conflicted with the design of the classroom, so the wall behind the board is covered with unpainted wood panels.

The changes are trying to go out across Scotland at least, with schools trying out all the different things. Also there are handset voting system, like on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, which lets students answer questions asked by the teacher. Then the teacher has the option to 'name and shame' any pupil who makes an obvious/stupid mistake (which I have witnessed!!)

The reason I know this is because I am a senior member of our Pupil Support Systems (Prefects, Class Captains etc) gets first look at new kit, resources and we can judge them, along with teachers, on whether we think it would be beneficial to the school. Currently we are looking at live radio broadcast equipment to add to the recording studio, with further plans to expand to internal TV.

Half of these 'innovations' don't seem that useful. Presi is just a text presentation with some fancy transitions, whilst tablets so the teacher can 'present from the side of the class or the back' sounds silly, as there was a think that enabled you to do that long before the tablet, known as a remote.

You are a pupil. Not a senior mentor, or whatever rubbish title they've came up with, but a pupil. Please stop avoiding the term pupil, so a few people will be tricked into thinking you're not.

And will they be taking on the iPad to control the graphics? For example, Mrs Smith could go 'And answering the next question is James', and then swipe up on her iPad so it appears on screen.

The tablet is close to how a TV presenter has on and can control various things on screen. So the teacher can decide to skip a slide without it showing, edit one whilst showing another, all using Presenter View

Can we cut out the pretentious ego-boosting nonsense please. As great as it is that your school has some good technology and you're showing enthusiasm to use it - there's no denying this thread and many of your posts are essentially you showing you and your school off and it's very very boring.

I didn't decide to talk about it, I was on topic and it was steered towards that.

Oh, so you are a pupil! So essentially you're a buddy?

I am aware of the voting systems and such. They have been around for years, and haven't been adopted because they're naff. For the cost of investment, they provide little benefit.

Regarding blackboards, there is no rule that says you cannot call them a blackboard. It's a myth.

In any case, I don't think this thread is going anywhere in terms of being on TV Forum.

Yes I'm a pupil, 5th form, so I have classes plus prefect duties on top of the SR. No I'm not a buddy, that's a separate team (which we are training for next year), I'm a Class Captain, Depute House Captain and Prefect.

Anyway... Laughing Can the mods delete the off topic posts, and can we get back on topic as I'd really like to know what I could try out.

Surely the whole point is to try and see what you can come up with by yourselves? I'd imagine that's the whole nature of the School Report project, for pupils to interpret the structure of news programmes themselves rather than rely on members of internet forums for support on which camera angles to try out. Trial and error goes a long way.

Due to various issues with the original class we were working with (behaviour and lack of effort mostly!) we have to change the class, which means they are behind on the research work, so we are trying to catch them up with the behind the scenes/technical stuff. The plan for next year is to integrate it into cross curricular classes.

The School Report is meant to get children interested in journalism, rather than know how to work cameras etc. They all know basic parts, like why the presenter stands for some parts, why a certain camera is at that angle etc, but the lead teacher and myself thought that if there was 'different' camera angles it would make our broadcast different from the rest. We had ideas, but weren't sure how to execute them.
