Jeremy Darroch stepping down from Sky
Just saw this on the Sky News website - Sky Group CEO Jeremy Darroch is stepping down to be replaced by Dana Strong, the former Virgin Media CEO who is currently a Comcast exec.https://news.sky.com/story/skys-chief-executive-jeremy-darroch-to-step-down-12180633

I am afraid I cannot answer this question, though I think that her absence s another huge loss within the sky staffing. In contrast, what would rather interest myself is wether we can expect a (THE!) long awaited graphics refresh finally this century!
This century? Probably.
Last time I saw the "where is HTP" question asked on Twitter, someone mentioned maternity leave and someone else mentioned a bereavement, but I'm not sure either had reliable sources and were probably speculating.
The Sky News Thread
Does anyone know where Hannah Thomas Peters is these days? I remember she was appointed climate change correspondent, but haven't seen her on screen for ages. Did she leave Sky?

Television productions can continue unlike back in March, as in the summer of 2020 the government and the UK broadcasters came to an agreement on production measures to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved. Those measures and agreement were not in place back in March, hence the closure of the productions such as Coronation St, Eastenders etc.
All audience based shows will now have no audience in the studio, and virtual audiences will become the norm for the likes of Graham Norton Show etc. They are now used to this, so really there will be no big impact.
Philip Schofield was hoping to have some studio audience in for the launch of Dancing on Ice. It now will be no audience in the studio, and possibly a virtual audience watching along.
You say that, but a similar agreement existed between the government and theatres with so many productions and buildings going to great lengths to make them “covid safe”. The National Theatre on the South Bank even stripped out all its seating to be replaced with 2m+ distanced bubbled seating, but London productions were still swiftly closed without warning in December. I know there are differences between TV production and live theatre, the main one being present audiences, but I don’t think we can necessarily bank on anything continuing just because there has previously been an understanding it meets covid safety guidelines as it feels everything just stepped up a gear again.
Yes, but the guidance from the Government says that "go to work if you cannot reasonably do so from home" and businesses and places can remain open "for the purposes of film and TV filming", so there isn't really anything to bank on. That is what the Government has said.
Whether insurers agree is another matter.
Coronavirus - Impact on live/recorded shows
Seems TV production can continue during this lockdown but I suspect some decisions will be made to suspend or reduce non-essential production. From an outsiders perspective inviting acts from around the country to audition for BGT should be a non-starter, but for a relatively closed production such as Dancing on Ice it might be a different matter.

It's the right shape for the Holby City building at Borehamwood, but seems to have too many floors.
Casualty
People are still getting transferred "up" from the ED and there's the occasional stairwell cameo so I think they're still meant to be on the same site in-universe.
Here's the final shot which shows that more of it is Roath Lock than I thought. Looks like they just covered up the waterways with CGI buildings and trees:
I suppose that could be the back of the the Holby City building just to the right and behind the ED, though it's definitely not the actual Borehamwood building.

"Online content service providers will not be required under the regulation to provide content ordinarily available in the UK to a UK customer who is temporarily present in any other EEA Member State." Source
There are a whole load of issues to do with this regarding licensing of individual content. Want to watch Premier League games when on holiday in Spain? You'll need to use DAZN (I think?) since Sky can't let you use their products to watch it as they are not the license holders. Same with the example given in the tweet - Sky don't hold the rights to OFAH, it's a BBC Studios show I think, and perhaps another broadcaster in Spain has the rights to show it there.
However, you should be able to watch a Sky Studios show which airs on Sky Atlantic UK and Sky Atlantic DE since there are (hopefully) no rights issues...
The Brexit Effect
Just to clarify please: Are Sky and co now
not permitted
to make these services available in the EU, or
not compelled
to so they choose not to?

I believe Broadchart bought I Like Music and rebranded as the latter, but someone has obviously decided not to change the URL and put in a redirect.
That FAQ is amusing - I hope someone pulls them up on it next time it goes down!
Where do TV shows obtain instrumentals?
Interesting that broadchart and ilikemusic are clearly the same white label platform despite having separate URLs.
This FAQ from the BBC version amuses me
How reliable is the service?
The system will be available at all times.

Eh? They've reported on it throughout in the same way that BBC News has reported on it - valid pieces of newsgathering by relevant journalists. There have been packages and NIBs on both BBC and Sky News about the new proposed channels (both the Murdoch-backed one and the Discovery-backed one).
Here's an example by the BBC's media editor: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55350906
And one about Andrew Neil's departure which discussed the new channel: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54299057
And another example by Kleinman: https://news.sky.com/story/billionaire-reubens-in-talks-to-take-stake-in-gb-news-tv-channel-12157913

Sky News on-line - what on earth are you doing?
Why, out of nowhere and for no good reason and with no real story, are you reporting on the set up of a rival, designed to take viewers (and minor ad revenue) off you?
Unless, of course it's a coded 'come and get me' exercise from Mr Kleinman..

A colleague who used to work for a large tv manufacturer (not sure which one) told me a while ago that they had a large batch of 3D TVs which couldn't be sold, so they disabled the 3D functionality and sold them all to a large hotel chain. Unsurprising, really!
4K 3D televisions
I believe the last major brand to launch a 4K 3D TV was LG with their 2016 flagship models, but they didn't include 3D in the 2017 models and haven't since. A quick search didn't yield any results for new options, but I did find some recently-expired listings on eBay.A colleague who used to work for a large tv manufacturer (not sure which one) told me a while ago that they had a large batch of 3D TVs which couldn't be sold, so they disabled the 3D functionality and sold them all to a large hotel chain. Think that was purely a London Eye social media thing. There's been tests for a light show around London Bridge which has either been pre-recorded or will be live tonight, presumably on BBC One's "Happy New Year Live!" programme rather than on ITV News.
ITV News
There is a prerecorded light show around the London Eye on their Instagram account. I’m not sure if any of that will be airing on TV.

All the gallery equipment used by Eurosport in the Arqiva building was advertised on Peaker Pattinson's site a while back. I believe that Arqiva have closed the operation on that site.
Yes, completely closed. From what it looked like when I drove past a few months ago, it looked like another (non-broadcast) company was moving in to the facility, but I'm not too sure.
DAZN
Clicking around the website, I notice they have three UK offices. Two in London and one in Leeds. One of the London locations is Feltham.
So I wonder if they have taken over the former offices, studios and tech infrastructure left by British Eurosport when they left the site?

Premier League have said today they are not considering the idea - no club has proposed it yet and 14/20 clubs would have to vote for any action to be taken. Not sure about the EFL.
Premier League Coverage PPV and beyond
More mutterings this morning that the PL and EFL will consider a pause in activity soon. One going as far as both leagues considering the issues relating to an incomplete season too. A reminder that with EURO 2020(+1) comes hard on to the end of the domestic campaigns that extending seems impossible this time around.
