I also never said journos like using PD150s' I said the results were laughable for such a large organisation like the BBC however it's not going away.
Having watched closely recently some good things and some bad on NWT - when it comes to items shot by journalists.
But the item by Colin (something or other) about squirrels was clearly shot by himself and the results were terrible.
One interview looked like it was strobing.
Another was too red.
The shots were the wrong colour.
Surely there is a quality control at the BBC if nowhere else that if an item is shot by a journalist and the results are sub-standard it shouldn't make air.
Instead the item was broadcast from breakfast till NWT!
I could understand that sub standard work on Granada or Channel M but not at the BBC.
I'll post this with the hope that I won't then face criticism.
Disappointing tonight that the lead story failed at all to transmit.
But at least there was a basic news prog there doing most of the stories you would expect to be covered tonight - without any of the manufactured rubbish we've been subjected to recently.
In fact apart from the lead (GR had their own Hurricane story) and a crime story ITV did - BBC NWT and GR covered very similar ground tonight.
Chorlton murder, Beauty contest row, Blackpool lights and Black Pudding ice cream.
Is the BBC moving to a GR agenda or vice-versa!
Fact, NWT has a 30% audience share (Up 3%)
Fact, Granada has an 18% share a 1% drop on last time
Whilst you don't like what is on NWT, a lot do.
Whilst you and I both agree that a lot of stories, shot by journos, look rubbish, a lot don't seem to mind
I get the impression you know a little about what goes on. A little knowlage can be a dangerous thing.. I'm not going to get into a slanging match, thats pointless.
I know a bit more about this than you, lets leave it at that.
Fact - The slanging match wasn't started by me
Fact - Those ratings stats aren't accurate
Fact - I'm happy with what I know - both the accuracy and content.
Fiction - The BBC have less resources than Channel M
Fiction - Most journos don't mind using crap-cam. More like they want to keep their jobs rather than rock the boat.
But I'll air my views on regional news good or bad as that's what this Forum is about.
I'll also ensure that staements are backed up.
I can name several examples in the past few weeks BBC reporters who work for other regions, the network or national/World news have been used to report on NWT - correctly so.
Ch M don't do this 'cause they only cover Gtr Manchester....

So the BBC using a reporter from another region/national/world to report on a story about someone from Manchester etc doesn't count as having a call on a massive amount of resources that Channel M don't have?

Use Channel M as an excuse... excuse for what exactly?? I didn't say it was any good, I just said the chances are its better resourced, infact it wouldn't surprise me if per head of staff Ch M had a bigger budget than NWT.
I'd be interested to know what resources you think NWT can call on??
Tip.. On your remote control there will be a panel with numbers 1-9 on it, at 6.30 push something other that 1 and I'm sure much satisfaction will ensue

I enjoy TV news.
I enjoy working on regional news.
I'm entitle to comment on NWT and GR and Channel M.
I'm just depressed that a news programme that won awards for the quality of its reporting has gone downhill over the past 12 months.
And I know at work SOME think they have this year's RTS in the bag.
That should read they know they have the BBC RTS committee in the bag. That is no real judge of quality.
How anybody can claim the BBC is badly resourced compared to a cable channel is living in dreamland.
Number of people does not equate to a better product.
It's how you use the resources and what the quality of individual is like.
BBC NW has all the resources of the BBC to call on.

Or reources allocated to Network News have been piggy backed by NWT.

The decision to do that is correct but you make out that BBC NWT is some poor underfunded region - absolute RUBBISH.

And notice how you don't disagree with the point about the ratings declining when looked over a period of weeks and months.
That's because you know it's true.
Do you really think the beeb has unlimited resources... regional news has been squeezed for years and to be honest Channel M possibly is better resourced, with the might of the Guardian Media Group behind it.....
NWT resoundingly beat Granada again with a huge viewer share, People are watching, and enjoying, hard as that is to belive.
We could have a massive debate about "Quality", journo's running around with there own cameras is a laugh. At best it looks like an A level project, but its apparently what the viewer wants and sadly for all involved its not going away

You are having a lugh - Channel M better resourced - I don't think so with all the resources the BBC can call on on a national and local basis.
Channel M backed by GMG. Er BBC backed by the licence fee. I know which is a bigger resource so don't talk twaddle.
Ratings are down overall. Yes some nights the BBC resoundingly win helped by a big handover from BBC National News.
But OVERALL the gap is massively down this year and BBC NWT is being beaten by Granada which hadn't happened for years.
And week on week the BBC share is down.
NWT also performs worse than the 1830 slot across the BBC on average and performs below many other regions week on week.
(Yes it won a Roby for Best Programme but that's when those of us who believed in quality had a say - BEFORE the changes were brought in so don't live on PAST achievements)
And as for viewers liking crap-cam. Says who? Not the viewers (see the ratings comment). Not the journalists who object to union agreed rules being ridden roughshod over or are asked to shoot material which looks shoddy compared to their rivals.
Oh yes I know who likes it. The incompetent BBC managers who are dragging down the output turning quality into something shot by a 2 year old.
As for Local TV er - hypocrit! You use Channel M as an excuse and then knock local TV
the other thing of note today at the Owen / Newcastle United press conference..... Tyne Tees went down in my estimation.
Simon O'Rouke introduced himself as from ITV Tyne Tees whilst the Granada Tonight reporter just said "Granada". Where's the spirit of independence Tyne Tees used to have? The ITV News reporter also got stagged off by Fat Fred and Souness after the press conference but before Sky Sports News switched off the mikes.
That's because all the regions are now branded as ITV Tyne Tees or ITV Granada. As much as people don't like it, it's not a good idea in the current climate to rock the boat! (and that includes people at Tyne Tees)
Sounds like the Granada man was more than happy to rock the boat!
