Yes, but Iran and Syria have no intention of getting involved.

What happened to Caroline Hawley? She's just vanished - I haven't heard or seen her anywhere.

You'd never guess she's been in Mexico would you?

Middle East Crisis

Also, Sky's coverage often looks more impressive because London-based anchors and reporters from around the world pop up in Israel and Lebanon (or wherever the story is). The speed of their arrival might be impressive - as it was with the tsunami - but they have to do this as, unlike the BBC, they don't have many reporters in the region. It doesn't look quite so impressive when a Jerusalem correspondent turns up a couple of hours drive from their base.

Also, where's John Simpson? He's bound to pop up somewhere!

Probably not Beirut, more likely Jerusalem if anywhere. His wife has just had a baby.

Both channels are doing quite well. Sky News is snazzy and fast, and N24 is more contemplative and better at explaining the issues. It doesn't surprise me that some people on here seem totally unable to grasp the different concepts. Ben Brown annoys me immensely, but a channel's coverage shouldn't be judged on where top names have been flown out to, and how fast.

Sky News

Good god! I haven't watched Sky News at the weekend for ages, so when you were all talking about the "press red" banner I thought it was a lot of fuss over a little caption in the top right hand corner. I hadn't for a moment thought it would be something so hideous and intrusive. Switched over after a couple of minutes.

John Snow to Defect?

How is Paxman not a journalist? He's one of the most informed presenters around! It's just a shame he doesn't do a bit more reporting like Snow does, but I guess he's pretty busy - he even seems to be on Newsnight less and less. That could suggest he may be moving on, and there was talk of him taking over Question Time or something else.

Robert Peston

However good he may have been as a newspaper journalist, he is a dreadful replacement for Jeff Randall. I've never seen someone both so terrified of the cameras and yet so patronising, as if he's speaking to little children.

BBC News 24

Perhaps this is because for now, this earthquake isn't a big story. Earthquakes happen all the time - making a big fuss about one because it may (but probably won't) lead to a tsunami in Fiji and New Zealand is pure sensationalism. Let's hope nothing happens: quite apart from the death and destruction it would cause, the days of speculation on these boards as to who will be the first newsreader to get to Fiji will get tedious beyond belief.

It's not like he does every day, 6am - midnight non-stop. A couple of long shifts at the weekend is hardly going to kill anyone.
