ITV 2019 idents and presentation - ITV Creates

Keeping up the 'one a month' pattern for ITV, another new ident started at 6am this morning. March's new ITV Creates features work from 'On The Mend and The NHS'. Given the current situation, somewhat appropriate to see something putting The NHS to the front at the moment.

Channel 5 rebrand 2020

The graphics I've seen so far all seem to have throwbacks to the channel's original signature 5 colours colourscheme, which is a nice little touch. It does look like a very low cost and basic refresh, but I still agree that it's nice to see idents which actually feature the logo for the channel once more, rather than some vague shots of people.

For those who've not seen it yet, videos and images of some of the new pres from throughout today so far here:-

Classic Emmerdale

The new YTV endcap finally appeared on today's second episode (20/12/94), only a mere 2 months after the new idents were introduced. Looks like they waited until the new opening titles, end credit theme (finally ditching the 1972 theme for good) & font were introduced until they started using it. Possibly they overlaid the new endcap over the October-December episodes on the original broadcast, anyone got any off-air recordings?

You're in luck there as I can give you the very end of Emmerdale's credits from just before then, namely 15/12/1994 according to the Teletext data, and this is as-broadcast by Yorkshire themselves. I actually have a tape with a lot of recordings from Emmerdale and Corrie from October-December 1994, although a lot of them do cut off before the credits end.

ITV 2019 idents and presentation - ITV Creates

Another new ITV Creates this week. Maybe they're putting out one new one a month this year.

If you just imagine what would happen if you crossed an ITV ident with a DFS ad...

TV Forum

Asa posted:
I appreciate those who keep it up to date but some of those entries are stretching the reason for the calendar a bit.

Throwing it out there - do people actually look at it? Or the ticker at the top of the homepage (including updated pres sites)? I'm wondering whether it's a feature worth keeping for any future redesign.

I don't know how many people actually read the words in the ticker for pres sites as for several months at one point I was quietly sending through dedicated pseudo-haikus in the update text for TV Whirl and not one person ever noted it or asked about it. Razz However the inbound traffic stats show people do click on the ticker link.

ITV 2019 idents and presentation - ITV Creates

Why are some of the view that there will be new idents? Has there been any confirmation of this?

As is usually the case, someone on social media went pestering someone involved with the project and was told in private ITV Creates was continuing into 2020, then naturally plastered this all over the net as exclusive nooz. That got leaked to the forum crowd too, and I suspect a lot of people have run with their own spin and/or Chinese whispers on that as gospel ever since.

Details that will be overlooked are that this quote was made several months before the end of 2019 so in plenty of time for plans to change, no official announcements have been made since, and from what I recall even the unofficial source only said ITV Creates would continue into 2020... not that they were necessarily filming any new ones.

TV Whirl - Celebrating 20 Purple Years

Happy New Year 2020 Special Feature

For the third year running on TV Whirl, we have a special feature taking a look at how channels marked the crossover from 2019 to 2020 in their channel presentation. Going bigger and better than ever before this year, there's a total of 61 62 clips taking a look at the main channels BBC One and BBC Two (across all nations), UTV, STV, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. But also a bunch of the smaller offshoot channels, with coverage from BBC Scotland, BBC Alba, ITV2, ITVBe, Film4, More4, E4, 4seven, Blaze, Quest Red, Drama and for first time ever German stations, in the form of RTL, RTL2 and DMAX.

Happy New Year 2020 Feature

Finally, 2019 also marked the first year where every day of the year saw an update to the site, and we look forward to continuing the work into this year. Thanks everyone as ever for all your continued support as TV Whirl moves into the next decade.

BBC Scotland - the launch

They may have only been simulcasting the show off BBC1 Scotland, but the closedown at 12.30 on BBC Scotland was a little special. A long announcement talking about the channel. With an extended playout of the Powder ident, recoloured in Scottish colours...

Christmas Presentation 2019

I can’t see any discussion of it already but I noticed that Channel 5 added a sleigh over some if not all of their idents up to Christmas, a nice little touch.

Good spot there. The really subtle addition from 5 only seems to appear from Christmas Eve from what I can tell, complete with UTV-style 'Santa Updates' from continuity throughout the evening.

(Yes, I know there's a dedicated thread for 5's Christmas Pres, but as it's already been mentioned here...)

ITV 2019 idents and presentation - ITV Creates

Week 52 of ITV Creates began at 6am this morning, with Anna Lomax's work for the 'exploding confetti' logo. Although the first broadcast doesn't actually show the cylinders explode. Additionally always the sticklers for accuracy in this junction at ITV, it also contains an incorrect pre-recorded announcement which mentions Boxing Day but is still promoting GMB, despite the fact the show was not on in favour of CITV shows today. (Though it does still start with a big C spouting toxic gas so...)

First 6am broadcast, complete with wrong programme announcement

Channel 4

Sounding a bit like when one of the BBC regions plonks someone random from the newsroom in front of a microphone, a few special (and questionable acoustic quality) '4 All The UK' announcements from Channel 4 this afternoon featuring people from their new offices.

Merry Christmas and all that!

Channel 4

Specifically it's the same bumper/sting they've had scattered around random junctions the last few weeks, just with continuity over the top this time. Presumably also why they had to have such a rushed anno as it was never very long to start with!
