BBC2 Saturday Morning News 24

Square Eyes posted:
There is far too much simulcasting of News24 on mainstream BBC One and Two, it's just used as a convenient schedule filler.

There are in excess of 40 hours simulcasting of News24 on BBC One & Two in your average week.

What else are they going to show at the dead of the night?!

Health & Safety

It wouldn't surprise me if this was a Sky only issue... They refuse to recognise the union (BECTU) and I'm sure this hasn't helped in this situation - had the union been involved it would have probably been sorted out yonks ago.

I'm not sure why BECTU and Sky have run ins, but I'm a member of BECTU, and therefore continously reading about this... Confused

Burn It

The BBC Three zone no longer exists, so I'd presume it'd go out in it's own independant slot on BBC One or Two. Perhaps BBC One at 10.35pm?

Is there really a need for BBC3 - I imagine this channel might fare better!

I'm sorry, but there really is a need for BBC Three - it's to compete against the wave of repeat channels, which as far as I'm concerned, is what makes up the bulk of most Satellite/Cable channels.

BBC Three's programming has either won or been nominated for several awards, and is seen as having a very good commitment to new comedy in the industry, so believe me, it's far from useless.

Monkey Dust- Series 2

Ed Hammond posted:
and there were more parts of it that seemed like one-offs (like the perfect Americanised Crusades mentioned earlier - the caption at the end, "Dedicated to all the Americans Who Died In The Early Middle Ages") rather than the continuing characters we had in the last series, only a couple of which now remain.

The first episode of Series 1 was very much like this too (with the Hollywood take on the British Third Reich) so I would have thought some characters will return later on in Series 2 from this initial episdoe. Hoping it'll be the Paedocatcher General, and The Thin Controller.

Having watch it again last night (god bless VHS) I have to say I loved the sketch with the Police Riot - animated in a very convincing 1930's Warner Bros style animation. Lovely.

Monkey Dust- Series 2

Yup I liked the Paedocatcher character too - esp. when he says "By the power invested in me by News International" and is holding up The Sun. Wonder who that might be!

And Jeff (although revoiced and animated it seemed) as a good return. Liked the bit when he said "This isn't BBC Four" or words to that effect.

And who would have thought Clive could have done something even more disgusting? (Nice animation on the dog too).

I personally think it's got darker - didn't realise it'd be possible!

Loving the new timeslot!

Along with the lovely Sky Premier-like music* playing in the backgound, the big 'it could be YOOOOUUUU' voiceover says "This is Sky Movies 9"

It's a shame Sky can't put anything like this out - the pres is terrible at the moment.

*Thinks back to the 98ish Sky Preimer Silk Screen / Angels Ident*

Nice to see another ill-informed article on the Media Guardian website.

In what way is it ill-informed?

The fact that the Guardian says "The BBC is starting ..." when Flextech are running the channels.

Well the UK channels are half owned by Flextech and BBC Worldwide - but even with that in mind, our license fee doesn't pay for it so it's not the BBC as we joe bloggs knows it!
