Sky win all 4 Premiership LIVE rights until 2006-2007

interesting point raised by an Express sports person on Five Live tonight, he was talking about getting Des back and said that he thought the BBC would be better going for Gabby Logan as she would have more potential and I was wondering whether they would go with Matt Smith who is seen as a rising star too.

Also I think its pretty certain that MOTD will be on at 10.30, no other time really worked, they won't try and move it to prime time cos it just doesn't work (ala ITV) and I think people are generally happy at it being on BBC One at 10.30 and then repeated on the sunday morning.

Its funny how these things work isn't it, one minute the BBC loses alll their sport to ITV and then slowly they get them all back leaving ITV with very little.

I don't reallt understand all this fus about Des. Gary presented the last season of MOTD, if not the last two, and he's done well presenting the live matches too and the BBC still won the ratings battle at the last world cup, so why would they want Des back?

I believe that all platforms N24 is broadcast on have digital text, so viewers can access the headlines virtually instantly anyway. So why have a ticker?

Not on NTL we don't... and the ticker thing is just a rumour... lets see if they do start using one before we get too excited about it.... perhaps it'll be an optional extra for interactive viewers. No one here as actual confirmed that its happening, at least no one like NickyS.... let's just wait and see...

I stand corrected. Thank you.

News 24 Ticker

To be quite honest I think this whole thread has been blown wildely out of context and the realms of normality.

To be honest all I want to do is watch News which is of a quality that deserves to be seen. I don't care who's stolen pres from who, who breaks news first, or how much internal and cross company bickering there is.

I think we as the public deserve to see News which is factually correct, so therefore I'd rather wait for the broadcasters to verify the information and make sure it's correct before broadcasting.

Therefore I watch BBC News 24. I can be safe in the knowledge when I watch them that the news they are broadcasting is correct, and not some we-heard-this-of-some-bloke-just-so-we-could-beat-the-BBC rubbish that can occasionally be sprouted from the Sky Machine.

The BBC can't win at the mo - if there viewing figures are lower than the competition (BBC4, BBC3 or News 24) then they are ridiculed by the Press (Daily Mail or any Murdoch Owned Press) but if the are higher than the competition (BBC1, BBC2 or CBeebies) then they are slagged off for being to commerical and taking advantage of their situation.

Sky need the BBC as much as the BBC need Sky. It's called competition, and what keeps channels from being a total waste of space...

Well said!

Totally agree. The point is really that we all like different things and although its OK to talk about the presentation of the channel when it turns into a I love/hate News 24 thread it gets really boring.

A couple of other tweaks,

the sport headlines at .15 run straight after the news headlines so they no longer say 'Now here's the sport with...' they just cross straight to them and also they seem to be putting the story aston and info straps up as soon as they start to talk about a story rather than waiting for an interview to start or whatever.

I'll be a bit disappointed if the only real changes are to be these tweaks. I tthought that they might be doing something really different but it seems that they are not. I will reserve full judgement till they make more changes and I can watch properly. I do hope that they really do mean what they say about making it stand-out from the other news channels but I'm not sure that they will.

As for today's nominations, in previous years the nominations have been announced by now on a Tuesday, yet I can't seem to find any announcement so far on the official BB website or in other places.

Therefore, will the nominations be exclusively revealed publicly on Little Brother tonight? Clever move Smile

Chris Moyles had the announcment on Radio One at about 5.15 or so with BB Aled.

She probably does not earn as much as the papers say she does for one.

Secondly, she doesn't just appear for the half hour or hour that she's on-air, there's preperation time etc etc.

And she does work weekends so maybe thats taken into account too.

Saying that, I'm sure whatever she gets paid its a lot, but thats just the nature of the industry.

Good to hear Week In Week Out is coming back -- wonder if X-Ray will be making a return soon?

TV D, I didn't know you were a fan of X-ray, the concept of the programme is ok but the presenters last time were rubbish, Rupert Moon Shocked OMG what an awful presenter he is.

Jane Harveys OK, although I don't see the point in having another consumer show when we already have WatchDog. I think BBC Wales should just be producing shows that are only relevent to Wales. WIWO is fine as that generally is about Welsh issues but Z-Ray is just a waste.

Also while I'm having a bit of a moan, will BBC Wales stop showing the same trailers for the same stupid programmes.. If I see another Cable TV advert I'm gonna go mad! I know they need to tell us whats on, but really, they really shouldn't be showing the trailers for Cable TV the day after the last episode, at least wait for a few days to pass!

Do you mean Lucy Cohen ?

If so that is very surprising.

Indeed I do. the South Wales Echo says that she hopes to continue presenting the HTV news five days a week as well as this new job, or words to that effect.
