Peston On Sunday

As a regular viewer of Marr I'd be interest to see how this shows progresses but my first impression was that it's a bit gimmicky and probably not something I'll return to week in week out.

A couple of thoughts on the structure; I found it interesting that they led with the main political interview rather than end with it (as Marr does) and wonder if that's because they think people may switch off if they start with other things. Secondly the interview with Louis T was pretty dreadful, Peston didn't give him time to answer the questions and I found it odd that there was no clips of the show. I also thought it was interesting they name checked the Chancellor 3-4 times within the first segment of the interview which makes me wonder if they are aiming to attract people who aren't regular politics show viewers rather than Marr viewers, in which case sandwiching it between Marr and SP seems a little odd as I think it would probably be better at a different time.

The X Factor 2016

They should have refreshed the presentation aspects when they brought in Olly and Caroline, they've basically just split what Dermot did in two which screams that there is no need for two presenters and makes it seems even more tired. They should have used the opportunity to bring something new to the show and lose the over the top voice over and opening.

It still doesn't work with two presenters, or at least it doesn't NEED two presenters. It just feels like they gone "oh god there's two of them, what can we do with them?!" It feels so forced when they throw to each other.

The Voice

This essentially gives ITV options in the future. They at are less reliant on The X Factor but I can't see them axing it as it still rates relatively well and I think it would be too big a risk to rely solely on The Voice as they don't know how it'll do for them.

Interesting I just did some research on Wikipedia and the average viewing figures for the last series of both shows was 8.6m so The Voice could easily become a bigger show and ITV will be in a position to be more aggressive or less constrained than the BBC was in terms of developing the format.

BBC News at Ten

This isn't a response to anything ITV have done, it's been reported that this may happen for a while and the extended programme was trailed during the election. Obviously reporting this as a battle between the shows make for better copy but I don't think it's actually the truth.

Bradby at Ten

There's a story in The Times that the BBC are "revamping" the Ten as a result of 500k being added by ITV NaT. Probably a bit of misreporting (it's only a small teaser on the front) as there has been talk of them making some changes for a while.

The X Factor 2016

The show is just so tired. I've not watched it properly for a while but my boyfriend does so I've caught a fair bit of it and they haven't changed enough of the show to "rescue" it and what they have changed weren't the elements they needed to or haven't worked as they would have hoped.

For the early shows they should have lost the clinche elements of the production and just toned it down a bit. The changes to the judging panel are nothing new and neither Rita or Nick have brought anything special. Having two hosts just looks odd and doesn't work, plus there was nothing wrong with Dermot. I'm not sure why they haven't changed the titles or set just to freshen things up a bit and bringing Peter back seems odd when again that's all a bit cliche and they could have made some tweaks with that.

Bradby at Ten

First time I've watched since the second night and I still can't believe how bad this is. Bradby is just awful, it's not just the breathing that's annoying but the long pauses that almost seem like he doesn't actually want to be there. Plus his questions during lives are awful.
