R.I.P Easter Television

Jonathan have you suggested this idea to Channel's Four or Five? Here's some treatment ideas for you..

Five - Crucifixion Live with Vanessa Feltz. Vanessa hosts the show from an ultra modern killing arena surrounded by plasma screens. She even gives us a tour of the cross that'll be used and some examples of crucifixion's gone wrong and, if we're lucky, someone can put her up on the cross to try it out.

Four - Crucifxion Live - Right or Wrong?....A real-life Islamic terrorist who Channel Four claims is actually just a sweet little boy from the mean streets of Oldham is captured and crucified live on air but at what cost? And will he be our next Jesus in 100 years? Channel Four will return then with a dispatches special. 'Crucifixion Live' TV's darkest day.

New on-air navigation system for UKTV

Coming up next My Family so you may want to check and see what's on elsewhere otherwise you'll be forced to endure TV's worst sitcom.

Also why the hell do they still call the stations UKTV?! Haven't they realised it was a branding exercise gone wrong? Everyone I know still calls UKTV Gold UK Gold!!!!!!!!

Central News East set

Hopefully they'll all go on strike allowing the ITV bosses to change the locks on the doors and bring in some decent staff! I'm considering a campaign t o ban the current Central News line-up from TV. I think the European Court of Human Rights will back me on this. Saddam Hussein tortured his people less than ITV Central tortures me!

STV News

I'm not entirely sure if the east opt is going to be a stand alone show or not. SMG were quite vague in their original proposals (probably so they don't have to commit to anything if the plans go tits up) But I've heard through the grapevine that Stephen Jardine is doing the east, which makes me think that it's going to be two seperate programmes for east and west. (Like Anglia News is at the moment - only at weekends and early mornings do the two sites hook up for one Anglia News so it's basically two services)
There are problems with this though as the current offices in Edinburgh City Centre are probably not perfect for a full programme so a bit of work would need to be done.

STV News

I must say it does frustrate me when people ask what's the need to host a show from the scene. Many of you would be the first to criticise ITV, etc if they 'didn't bother to get off their arses in cosy London and get out to the story'. Be honest now - you know you would!!

But that's not what I wish to discuss this evening Exclamation

I've noticed something with STV's news. I'm getting the impression that John Mackay is very much being hyped up as the news outfit's main anchor. I'm thinking that the new look Scotland Today will be solo-anchored when it relaunches. This complies with everything that I've been hearing because I understand that Steven Jardine is to be the face of the East of Scotland bulletins. So what do you think - STV News with John MacKay (west) and STV News with Steven Jardine (East)

CBS Evening News

I think this is great news. Katie is my idea of a great news presenter. She's un-assuming, genuine, friendly and knows her stuff. She's everything that Natasha Kaplinsky would love to be but could never touch. I think we'll see some interesting changes in America's viewing figures. ABC is still second but could be dealt a blow by this. Bob Woodrow is still off ill leaving Elizabeth Vardis to basically solo anchor. She's good but not at Katie's level.

The future of Scottish news...

Did anyone see the build up on Scotland Today to the weekend Hearts/Hibs game? Jane Lewis and Raman were each coming LIVE from different pubs in Edinburgh. Jane had a huge crowd of loud men cheering and it seemed fun and exciting. Raman, on the other hand, had an empty pub. Maybe STV bosses should watch the tape back again and question why Raman is staying and Jane is going!!

The One Show with Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha

The show will probably broadcast between 630 and 730 so the Six O'Clock News will stay as it is. That's why I believe this new show will take on more of a Today Tonight (Australia) format. It won't have much news as it will follow the news. It'll be full of paedophile hunts, human trafficking investigations, 'our nhs in crisis', cowboy builders and 'exclusive interviews' with pointless people. Think Sky's Lunchtime Live mixed with Tonight with Trevor McDonald, Panorama and Watchdog!

The One Show with Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha

Everything about this worries me. If they were so sure that a nationwide relaunch would work they wouldn't be 'trying it out' in the middle of the no-audience month. (Trying out a show in August says to me that they basically already know it's doomed - so why bother)

Also, I'm thinking that they're hijacking the old nationwide name at the moment to play on the hearstrings of the nation. Everyone has fond memories of the show. However, I doubt the final show will resemble it at all. I think we're going to end up watching a dangerously tabloid, cliched, dumbed down programme. If you want to see what I reckon they're going to put on - log on to www.idents.tv/blog. From there you can see clips of A Current Affair and Today Tonight - two prime time 'curent affairs' shows presented by Natasha Kaplinsky types. They are awful and are regularly slated by comedy shows down under. They're basically like America's NBC Dateline but produced by someone with learning difficulties!!
This will make the case for a Scottish Six more than anything so, on that ground, bring on Nationwide!

STV News

As sad as this may sound, that article almost brought a tear to my eye. Once again, she comes across as a truly genuine, decent person with Scottish wit and charm. As has been said so, so many times on this forum, she'll be missed greatly. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that she's become Scotland's best known and best loved TV news presenter.

Sky News

I can't believe you're even suggesting that Madame Burley's bra and knickers wouldn't match! If you'd seen her 'special report' on how to save the environment by reducing your spin cycle on the washing machine (stay with me here) she was 'at home' and the dog arrived on the scene. It was a matching dog! A red setter. Almost like sisters!! Laughing
