I T V Thames Valley Tonight.
Well I guess you learn something new every day! I live in Southend and am not aware of anyone getting Meridian. I always assumed that people around the Thurrock area would probably pick it up as it is practically Kent. However, the coastal towns picking it up does surprise me. I might do a Rod Hull and go up and adjust my aerial!

I'm not entirely sure who told you that Meridian covers South Essex but it doesn't. Maybe they include south Essex stories in their bulletins but the programme is not intended for the region. Anglia/ITVLondon are both the service providers for south Essex. Anglia has an office in Chelmsford. Naturally you will be able to pick up Meridian in Southend as it's not far from Kent but you SHOULD NOT officially get Meridian in Essex.

Local Breaking News
Has anyone ever noticed (other than in NI) local stations doing break-ins? I say other than NI because, with their tense political climate, it can occasionally happen a lot there. However, I haven't noticed it on any of the other regions in Britain - other than the death of Donald Dewar, which is covered as breaking news on Scottish Television some years ago.

Apparently all the Russian channels, including NTV - Russia's largest - started running the Litvinenko story after Putin commented on it. A very odd way of doing things. Things screams of pandering to the leadership. 'If our leader doesn't talk about it, we won't' WORRYING
Russia Today - Another New News Channel

Actually the Litvinenko was the first headlines yesterday evening as it is this morning and I also saw a promo of a programme that said "is the Kremlin to blame?".
Even if the fact that the channel is state funded doesn't make it very trustworthy appearently it is not just a propaganda channel.
Anyway I like this channel's graphics, astons, music and very young presenters. I imagine they have sort of a limited budget but they're using it quite well.

CBS Evening News meltdown
Do be fair BBCWorld - he has a point. I am a Katie fan but she clearly is being used as a sex tool for men to watch and a mumsy figure for women to watch. The film set type lighting to soften her face is a typical example of this. Dan would not have bothered with that and would have got on with reading the damn news! It's also WAY too target with lots of Oprah style stories. If I was in America and watched the show regularly I don't think I would feel as if I was getting my daily fix of need to know news. I would however feel 'inspired by all the human stories' and blah blah blah that are being churned out by the show.

Russia Today - Another New News Channel
Interesting to see that Russia Today are going EXTREMELY light on the Litvinenko story. Even though it's now back at the top of the headlines on most channels around the world, Russia Today are waffling on about some summit in Iceland and online Litvinenko is mentioned at the BOTTOM of the website. I guess this clarifies claims that the station is state sponsored!

Russia Today - Another New News Channel
Having watched the channel, it's a lot more DWTV in style than CNN or Al Jazeera. It's simple and the set is pretty dull. However, I do quite like the on screen graphics. They're very clear and consice. They look like they've basically been stolen or 'inspired' by DR TV in Denmark

General Presentation on ITV1
Im confused about why anyone could prefer the old sickly green studio! The colour scheme was all wrong and just looked bland. The new colour scheme for the studio is by far the best they've had. It's a striking blue colour that highlights things like the skyline in the distance and the big ben dials around the news wall. My friend, who isn't a TV anorak, even mentioned it saying 'oh they have a skyline in the background now' which would suggest that he hadn't even noticed it before in the old bland set.
