Thames Whale dies

juice posted:
By the Houses of Parliament sounds more dramatic!!!

No, seriously, from the location of where the Whale is, the Houses of Parliament are not that far away. The Whale is somewhere between Pimlico/Battersey, and Milbank.

Yes it is dramatic..It appears to still be closer to battersea though from what i can see on Sky- its not been under any bridges. But its hard to tell though from the skycopter stuff..

Edit- switched to news24 and it is still in battersea..the beeb even have a reporter on one of the boats following the whale..

Sky have had some god emails from people, but they seem to be geting confused about the location of the Whale..its in Battersea, yet the presenters said its just by the houses of parliament..

EU to permit Product Placement on TV

Brekkie Boy posted:
The thing is if ITV didn't blur our the Coca-Cola glasses you probably wouldn't even notice they were there. The blurring draws attention to them.

US imports are full of product placements, but I can't say that as a casual viewer I spot them. The example always referred to in articles is every car in Desperate Housewives being a Ford. That certainly didn't register with me when watching it!

Thats what i mean, I've seen an episode of Sex and the City and Carrie is drinking something from McDonalds in the park - I only remember this because the cup was blured..

I've not paid too much attention to the cars in DH..

EU to permit Product Placement on TV

......

Lately though it seems to have been a bit stricter on UK TV, with things like logos on T-shirts being blurred / taped over - something I'd often seen on US programmes for years, but not here until a couple of years ago.

I've seen this a few times and taping over a logo or bluring is annoying - personally it draws my attention to it..

The ITV News Channel is no longer broadcasting

Theres an email from the ITN Cheif Executive on the guardian (http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,1667392,00.html) and it says "ITV is also planning a number of new initiatives, including possible brief news bulletins for ITV2 and ITV3"

So I doubt any of the current programmes will relocate here,

Massive explosions at Hemel Hempstead fuel depot

The sat image they've shown on BBC and Sky really shows how wide spread the smoke is..

Apparently I was the only person in London to sleep thru it, I was only woken by someone calling to ask if I was woken by the noise...

Regional Studios for GMTV

I remember reading a few years ago in Broadcast about a company that had plans to set up a network of mini self op studios across the country in hotels and places to be used for interviews for the likes of GMTV.

I've not heard anything about it since..

The Paul O'Grady Show

When Paul does 'Guess the Tune' and the caller rings in 'live' - how can that be pre-recorded?

I've noticed on a few occasions Paul has given the caller a visual clue, then realised the caller can't see him. So not all of the callers play live, and obviously they can't play live when the show is pre-recorded, they just play as-live at whatever time of the day it is recorded. That would also explain why some of the callers seem so thick, because you have to hear the tune with the cheering and singing of the audience down a phone and not on the better quality sound of a television.

I don't think you're ever actually told the game is live when it isn't, you're just led to believe it is because it would take too much explaining otherwise.

I'd think all callers would only hear down the phone- if you leave the volume of the TV up you'd get feedback. Radio and TV call screeners nearly always tell callers to turn mute the tv/radio.

The callers seeming thick could because they cant see the show on the tv if its being recorded, or thay are just are tick .

CNN Pipeline - Anyone subscribed?

I've had a quick look, it seems alright. Basically its like Sky Active or BBC News Multi Screen online.

Choice of feeds is bit strange now i have the choice of a report on Iraq, a static traffic cam in Los Angeles, a white house breifing replayed, or a static shot of the white house itself.
I think i've just chosen a quiet time when theres nothing much happening as this afternoon all 'pipes' as they call them were lives.

I think it could be an interesting way for news channels to deliver the news on the web in the future. If the main CNN channel (US or Int) was avalable on one of the feeds it could be good to have links coming up next to the video to stories on the website and background infomation.

Anyway off to go watch the Secret Service guards walk around outside the White House..where its 36f acording to CNN(..I'm gona get my 99 cents worth)

Sky News

Very stranger interview with a guy from the Mersyside Coalition againt racism just now on Sky. The guy was standing outside wearing a black jumper holding a black unberella which blocked all the frame. So you could see hardly any background and it looked like this head was floating..
