International News Presentation: Past and Present

NBC's Today from 1986; note how thoughtful, internationally oriented, and serious-minded (for a morning show) it was back then:

Very calm compared to todays morning shows. Just skimmed through and surprised to see at 36 min in David Jason make an appearance!

News embargoes for deaths

Aside from the Royals, I think 'embargoed' may be the wrong word to use for deaths. it just takes time for an agent or family member to make sure friends/family have been informed and prepare a fitting statement. It's also up to the agent to decided when they make the statement. Newsrooms obviously hear rumours but need confirmation.

In this case the BBC played both the role of agent confirming the news and that of news organisation, which I think is confusing people. It's only right that the BBC made sure friends and colleagues of Sir Terrys at Radio Two and across the BBC knew before it went public. I can also see how the newsroom would be aware ahead of the official confirmation being made public.

Helicopters Used for News Coverage

It's odd watching the staff just wander around what's now a crime scene and play out potential evidence, the CCTV footage, live.

Good Morning Britain - the launch

New programme, same problem. Can't they just cover the clock up on ITV +1

Good Morning Britain - the launch

There's quite a few unhappy Daybreak viewers on twitter complaining and asking what's happened to Daybreak..

Saw who thought GMB is 'stale'??

Good Morning Britain - the launch

Seems they've got round the Daybreak window problem by using a prerecorded background. Noticeable change in weather when they went to the news!

Good Morning Britain - confirmed

JK08 posted:
You can definately see where they've got their inspiration from. It's just a mash-up of all the US breakfast shows.

A few people have mentioned the set and desk looking like CBS This Morning, which isn't surprising as it was also designed by Jack Morton- http://pdg.jackmorton.com/portfolio/cbs-this-morning.aspx

Helicopters Used for News Coverage

Anyone know how it works with Arena crewing the helicopters?

They provide the camera operators as well as the pilots according to their website. So do they just have crew for the BBC and Sky helicopters waiting to go everyday? Or is it more of an on call situation?

Apollo Theatre Collapse

Piccadilly should have been close enough. Where Sky were broadcasting from, the edge of the police cordon, was the less than 100 meters from Piccadilly Circus.

Fox News

The studio looks quite good, aside from giant touch screens (I can imagine they must be frustrating to use if you can only view 4 tweets..)

There's the curved newswall AND a huge video wall that takes up one whole side of the studio floor to ceiling. It looks quite light too.

NBC News, MSNBC, ABC News and others from across the pond

I found this video which is from the first and second hour of yesterdays show:

Interestingly linked to the video was one of the 1990 set launch, which also featured news of Miss America in the first headlines.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wSnGb0V9X4

Am I the only one who thinks the Orange Room is very similar to This Mornings Hub?

I think it is the same idea. Although in the clip the room looks cramped, and not exactly a great layout.
