The Pope's Visit 2010

In the few minutes I did actually watch I heard the BBC commentator say a line about how many millions of years the volcano that Edinburgh Castle sits on is... yes because the belief in an earth hundreds of millions of years old is a well known part of catholic dogma!

'While there is little consensus among scientists about how the origin of this first microscopic life is to be explained, there is general agreement among them that the first organism dwelt on this planet about 3.5 - 4 billion years ago.' - 2004, International Theological Commission, headed at the time by the current Pope. I think you've got the wrong branch of Christianity.

I haven't caught up with much of the coverage; has there been much time given over to any protesters? Also, is BBC World carrying the coverage, or even the international BBC channels?

bbc.co.uk

Seems to be issues accessing the site tonight... I'm on Chrome, and cannot access any part of it.

EDIT: Ignore that. It's back up. (However, Chrome did have a message stating that it was not just me.. I was not imagining that.)

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

Saddest question of the tournament so far .... (if someone hasn't got there first)

Any ideas what the music ITV is using in the build up to the ad breaks? They seem to be playing under the coming up segments.

*ahem* ... sad moment over.

is it not a part of the opening music?

I think you are referring to Boy Lilikoi by Jonsi (the lead singer of Sigur Ros) - I know that the tune is used in some coming up segments, I'm not sure if it's the one you mean.

GMTV (1993 - 2010)

If the reports are true and ITV are considering axing GMTV because its too dumbed down

They did just buy Disney's share and GMTV is probably worth about £100M so I find this a bit hard to believe.

Forget "axing GMTV". GMTV is a money-making machine (for now) and there's not many parts of ITV you can say that about.

Not to mention the fact that ITV would never axe something for being 'too dumbed down'.

The Christmas TV Thread

One advert that has not been shown on television or (to my knowledge) mentioned in this thread is the famous Irn Bru 'Walking in the air' parody advert. I wonder whether it will be shown this year?

Funny you should say that because I just saw it for the first time today during This Morning.

The X Factor - Series 6

Indeed... To skew this more tvforumey - Any idea what ratings tonight (and indeed next week) will get? 16m + peak? Simon Cowell is a smart man.

Hollyoaks - Weekdays 6.30pm C4, 7pm E4

The best week of Hollyoaks in a long time with three strong storylines running throughout and only a limited number of the cast used throughout the entire week.

Interesting tonight's E4 episode ended with a disclaimer saying any similarities to recent events are purely coincidence and Hollyoaks is filmed eight weeks in advance. Can't say though I've noticed a major story with such similarities in recent weeks.

They were referring to the two teenage girls that jumped off the Erskine bridge near Glasgow earlier this week.

STV to drop ITV Evening News

That is the biggest load of crap I have read in a while! It will not be like that
No need to be so rude about what is a "fantasy" schedule, much like your own - unless, of course, your version is the concrete, definitive version that STV News at 6 will be taking?.

OK sorry about that is just you had 30mins worth of filler, and I can tell you STV news i pushing to time a number of days! where the sport has to get the kick,

(I didn't post the schedule, that was another user/forumer but apology...ahem..on his behalf, accepted Cool )

To pick up Gavin's point (or to expand upon my own), until recently MacKay would never get involved with the petty insults regarding the loss of Grampian etc. etc. Now he actually gives a defence after inaccurate information is presented and they (well actually one user in particular) are pulling apart his argument like vultures. I am surprised none of the media has picked up on this yet... like Guardian Media or maybe The Herald or Scotsman - it is a very easy story to print and makes a somewhat interesting headline: STV Anchor Faces Online Attack Over Changes.

I fear I have tempted fate...

I think this is a good move, though. On a purely selfish level hopefully this will actually create more jobs in broadcast journalism due to the expansion of the news servise, and therefore guarantee me a job in the future. Razz

And finally (see what I did there? I'm getting ready Razz ), is anyone else getting a little bit sick of those people on the STV forums that are taking pops a John MacKay and others? It's actions like that which are going to end up with that forum closed and the Real MacKay blogs being ended. Moreover, the forum is ran itself by STV, who unlike the BBC, does not need to allow criticism of its services being made on its own site.

Newsreading Easy - Wogan

Newsreaders make it seem very easy but realistically when I ever read out in public I splutter and trip over my words, forget where the sentence ends and often put emphasis on wrong parts of the sentence - and I consider myself a good public speaker.

Yet again, in a studio with a autocue I have no idea how easy I would find it. Probably not as easy as Wogan thinks it is.
