STV Interval caption

What happened if there was nothing to distribute round the network? On Sub-TV, one person suggests that on a Friday, they saw a different slide. Instead of YTV's own slide, they saw the lightspots caption, but without the greyscale at the top and bottom. Was this networked from ATV Birmingham?

The TV-am strike

Seen by many as the strike that changed the way that television companies were run, forever, the TV-am strike was the longest on the ITV network since 1979. Anyone got any memories of it? I seem to recall one morning, watching it, and instead of news, it was a VT clock, and various slides.

ITV 1979 strike, effect on emmerdale storylines

Tony Currie mentions about Blackhill taking control when there was 30 seconds of black on screen. My local transmitter, where I live here in Fife, is Craigkelly. I can actually drive 1 mile up the road, onto the Lochgelly road, and I can see it! I presume Craigkelly would have their own caption in such circumstances, or would the output to Craigkelly still come from Blackhill?

Rugby deals

I was wondering if anyone knows what the state of play is, regarding the re-tendering of the Setanta Sports tv deal, from 2010, for Guinness Premiership Rugby Union? Setanta bid £54 million to share it with Sky. Will it be retendered, and if so, will the RFU get anything near to that £54 million?

STV Interval caption

It's believed that by the early 1980's, I'd reckon after the franchise changes and start of franchise arrangements from January 1982, the 30 minute interval was abolished. I'm guessing that by this time, extra vision mixers had been hired, meaning the ITV network didn't have to be used.

BTW, if anyone is wondering what these captions are, here's the link to the page.

STV Interval caption

Looknig at the sub-tv website, about ITV Schools, up until circa 1982, Schools programming was suspended between 10:30 and 11:00 every morning. The regional ITV stations opted out and showed their own captions, and played their own music. The ITV network was used during this 30 minute period to distribute last minute adverts to all the contractors.

On the sub-tv page, it shows a caption from STV, dating from the 70's or early 80s. It has the word "INTERVAL" on the top third, and the STV logo used then on the bottom.

Was this used by STV as a 10:30 - 11:00 caption? It doesn't mention schools on it? In addition, there was a "Schools on STV" caption, used for opt outs from the network programming to show its own schools programming, and used again before national continuity returned. If the INTERVAL caption wasn't used, what was?

And was it regional announcers who made the 10:30 announcement, or ATV in Birmngham?

ITV Schools on 4

No, this was 1989. The great storm only happened just after ITV Schools on 4 started. This was definitley 1989, and it was faded in and out. The journey played in the background, and programmes were to time.

ITV Schools on 4

This wasn't a sudden shutdown, but a planned and scheduled shutdown of a transmitter.

Incidentally, STV did opt out during ITV Schools on 4. I watched a few, and you got an on screen glitch as they changed over. On two occasions, there was a VERY long 8 minute interval. Basically, it started with the Journey near the end, and at a convenient edit point, as it was about to end, you heard the start of the Journey, and you gfot to hear all 6 minutes of it!

Those were the days!

ITV Schools on 4

Does anyone recall an occasion on ITV Schools on 4, when the rotomotion device was playing, and a blue screen was faded in warning of a transmitter ging down for a couple of hours? I seem to recall this was in 1989. I live in Fife, and this transmitter was in England, so it was netowrked this announcement. Was this the only time such a thing happened?
