Only Connect
Minor point but ITV regions popped up as one of the connecting wall connections tonight. Glad to get it right!

Martin Lambie-Nairn has died
It’s amazing what he, and his company created and then achieved. A massive loss to branding and the creative industries.

For me it was only The Simpsons, until Disney+ came along, then it was a no brainer of having to choose one. This is the problem of having multiple Sky entertainment channels is that Sky One becomes a bit diluted and less relevant. Sky Atlantic gets all the good top drawer US imports. Sky Witness gets all the crime dramas and Sky Comedy gets all the top US comedies. Back in the day the shows from those channels would have ended up on Sky One.
Future of Sky?
Just as a channel, is there a point to Sky One any more? I've not seen anything in the way of a big production/promotion that would attract me to it.

When I called Sky to cancel I explained this and whilst they were helpful enough, you simply cannot get Sky Sports without having to commit to the main package, and I simply refuse to pay a lot of money for services I wasn’t watching. I therefore switched to BT and I’m only paying for what I watch now, but I can be flexible with the packages I can add or remove. Something you cannot get with Sky.
Sky certainly has a future, but as said when you have flexibility and services such as Disney+ offering a premium for a fraction of the price, Sky doesn’t look as valuable by comparison. If it can adapt or really sell itself in the future, then I’m sure there’ll be a place for it. Certainly it has a more optimistic future under Comcast.
Future of Sky?
I recently left Sky for BT, I had SkyQ, with Box Sets, Sports, HD and a second box, all in all with broadband I was paying £91 as an offer. That expired in September last year and the non offer price went up to £130 per month, to which for me I was not getting my money’s worth. I found that due to work and other commitments I was only watching Sports and the FTA channels. I watched maybe one or two series a year from the main Sky channels. I had no issue with Sky per se, it was that I had no time, nor interest in some content. SkyQ remains an excellent product I must add. When I called Sky to cancel I explained this and whilst they were helpful enough, you simply cannot get Sky Sports without having to commit to the main package, and I simply refuse to pay a lot of money for services I wasn’t watching. This. And the comparisons between James May’s and Paul Hollywood’s visits to Japan. I could see the format working and potentially coming back.
Christmas TV 2020
I particularly liked the section on Channel 5's obsession with Yorkshire and the royals in the latter part of It's Clarkson on TV last night.

They did, the credits for Sooty ran for about ten seconds and then cut to the Granada endcap.

Then, of course, you have (I presume) Granada cut short their own credits to make up for lost time.

Unfortunately I can’t take a screenshot with my iPhone using the BritBox app (must be a copyright filter) but the Joan Hickson Marple’s are in 4:3 on BritBox.

I uploaded this clip and I have a simple explanation for this. It was me editing the clip quite badly.
Basically I recorded the whole junction with all of the adverts, including the Butchers one (and the whole episode of Sooty) onto VHS. Many moons later I bought a DVD recorder and started transferring all the continuity clips I had onto DVD. My first recorder had an option where you could pause the DVD recording, which is what I did with this clip, hence why you see the last frame of the Butchers advert. I was conscious of the available recording space and getting as much as I could onto one disc. DVD+RW were still a premium at this time, which was about 15 years ago. I simply left my DVD edit onto that clip and forgot to edit it out when putting the clip together.
I wasn’t the best at editing clips back then and I can only apologise, but hope that clarifies it for you.

First, the end of a Monster Munch advert (at 1:3
cuts to the final frame of a Butcher's Dog Food advert which had probably been played in another region and Granada opted in just a tad early.

The entire Mr Bean (live action) has been added to BritBox, but unfortunately they’ve got the cropped episodes that ITV4 show.
