C4 Announcers

Well Tracy Ann Griffiths is the Irish lady on C4 ex UTV invision announcer .

There is also a girl there with a northern accent who is ex BBC 1 .
A guy called Garry who is on Plus too at the moment and i think he is ex Central .

Yes - him on Plus and 4. He's good. Like him.

You're talking about Gary Terrza, he is very good, I've heard him on E4 too, I assume that they share sometimes for Channel 4 and E4, but the Channel 4 announcers are really good at their jobs.

I do remember Marcus doing a few stints last year, but it was mainly a teatime shift, I do remember his geordie accent introducing Friends and Hollyoaks.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Classic

I think only once a week is a good idea for WWTBAM, as some time ago it was on all the time, many people were switching off and it had lost it's cult status in a way. Though when it first came on, it was on every night for 2 weeks then it would take an 8 week break, then come back, etc etc, but once a week on a Saturday is a good idea, as I like to see it in the schedule, but WWTBAM Classic is now on too much and it is getting crap. Though it would be hard to imagine ITV without it.

Though ITV made a bad mistake in 2000, when they had to schedule 2 episodes of WWTBAM, a Euro 2000 game, which over ran and Corrie, all between 7pm and 11pm in One night, now that was stupid. But I'd be certain that you won't see viewing figures of 11 Million plus on a regular basis for Millionaire again. Though the Ingrams helped it a bit I suppose.

Letterman or Leno

What channels do Letterman and Leno air on in the UK?

Letterman is on ITV2, at night time for some reason.
Leno is on FTN and CNBC, FTN show him everyday at 10.00pm and 1.40am, CNBC show Leno weekends at 8.00pm and Sundays at 9.30pm, but that edition as I have said is editied.

Letterman or Leno

I have never really sat down and watched a full edition of Letterman, I have watched Leno several times and he is very good, but I prefer things like Headlines and 99c Shopping Store Spree, which I find funny, but I am not an avid viewer of the show, but he is good.

Though for me I much prefer Conan O' Brien, he is much funnier and he seems to get away with much more than Leno does, he always seems to make anything funny. But it's a shame he's only on CNBC three times a week, and one of the editions has the monologue cut off it.

You've Been Framed

Well talking about revamped home video programmes, everyone's favourite Sky One alternative has revamped again. Yup Kirsty's Home Videos was back tonight for a new series, with a completely new look, the titles now looking more like Tomb Raider (Kirsty seemed to look like Lare Croft for some reason) and the rather good music has been dropped too. Though during the show they didn't overuse the canned laughter, they overused the canned applausing. But compared to other editions of the show, this was very different.

Though talking about revamps, I wonder how different YBF will be now?

Which is the worst regional news theme on ITV1?

Digifiend posted:
I've just thought - Granada, not Yorkshire, probably chose it - didn't the final Granada Tonight titles use those colours? Wouldn't be surprised if the next relaunch affects all regions owned by Granada though - they've already made the idents, endcaps, and weather generic, the news is the last bastion of regionality - see Anglia and Meridian for the strongest examples.

Yup the final titles for Granada Tonight were dark red, with purple everywhere, but it must be noted that, the GT look we are talking about was introduced on the same day that ITV changed it logo (The one where they dropped IT= for i t v) so I think it was October 1998. Though if you have a video copy (I mean one off the TV) it is worth looking at them, there's a place in the titles, where the words Bringing the News Home to you, all appear one after each other, you see a small Granada Tonight logo in the background, but in the circle above GT and opposite the G, I am very certain that in this circle it has IT= in it, but I am not 100% sure here, but if you have this on video, take a look at it.

But this was my least favourite look, it outdated very quickly, I didn't like the music either, I muched preferred the all purple look, which only lasted 10 months! Plus the music for the purple look was ten times better, but I do prefer Granada Reports, overall to Granada Tonight for many reasons.

Channel TV in the afternoon

and Gus, well blame either Maggie or TSW..

Blame TSW. Westcountry would have taken Gus if TSW hadn't thrown a wobbly over loosing its franchise.

As for Channel being the most regional, I'm assuming you are not including the nations, as IMO Scottish, Grampian, ITV1Wales and UTV are more regional.

Yup, I wasn't including the nations, I know the Welsh, Scottish and Irish offer a good regional service to the viewer. BTW Does Carlton Westcountry still opt-out for their childrens thing? (I think it is a Pirate.)

Channel TV in the afternoon

Channel TV has to be the most regional ITV company now, even though they have a shoestring budget. I know they opt for LNN continuity most of the time and thats fair really, but the regional service they give is very good. We were in Jersey in 1996 and I managed to watch some of Channel TV and it was very good. I remember there was a massive TV at Jersey Airport which had Channel on, and from what I remember they had Puffin and the preseneters doing IVC all afternoon, even introducing a repeat of Coronation Street too. But no-one can slant CTV's efforts for kids, they still care. Shame Anglia (well GR/N/D/) got rid of BC, which was a shame, and Gus, well blame either Maggie or TSW. Laughing Though you can't complain really as they do give a decent regional service for a tiny budget, compared to the Carlton, Granada and SMG regions.

ITV1 - Home Of The Classics

What has "Thunderbirds" got to do with ITV? Its a BBC programme isn't it?

Carlton currently own the rights so probably have them from Central.

Gareth

Thunderbirds was made by ATV and ITC, both being Lord Lew Grade's TV companies, so both of their archives are owned by Carlton. But like every other programme made by Gerry Anderson (Captin Scarlet, Stingray, Joe 90 etc) were produced for ITV and they showed them on a regular basis throughout the 1960's, 1970's and some of the 1980's, since then Carlton got the rights, digitally remastered them, put them on DVD and sold the TV rights to BBC Two and BSkyB.

But a very good mock Whataday, I like the music you use too there, but I am not to keen of the Stars In Their Eyes, Cilla Black on the Royal Variety Performance, but you should have replaced them with something from ITV Sport and ITN/ ITV News, but otherwise excellent!

Keeping Up Appearances

I think the show is brilliant, not the funniest thing ever made, but it was good and to be honest they did end it at the right time. Though a one-off episode would be a good idea, but I think it is true that since the show ended two of the cast have passed on, I think they guy who played Emmet died and the woman who played Violet too died. (Not the one who was married to Onslow) I thought the repeat on BBC One the other day was hilarious with the funeral car driving round the block several times.

Something you may know, I was watching a bit of CITV today, who makes The Big Bang and Wilmot? (of course the little credit window is removed before a production caption can be seen!)

Well when TBB was presented by Gaz Top and Violet Berlin, I think it was made by Yorkshire Television/ Granada Kids, I remember seeing a repeat of TBB on Discovery Kids some time ago, but they took the endcap off, but I am certain it is Yorkshire who makes it.

Central West and BBC Midlands Thread

Andrew posted:
And following the Midland mainline idea, maybe they should have Anglia TV on Anglia Railways, HTV Wales and West on Wales and West trains and LWT on SWT!

Now that you mention it, what regional news would you have on an Arriva TransPennine Xpress train, as it goes through 3 different areas! Laughing (The ITV regions being Granada, Yorkshire and Tyne Tees) Though Central Trains do pass through Warrington and I have been on them several times, it's a good idea they're doing video news bulletins on them. Though I am certain that Central Trains go far west as Liverpool and far east as Norwich and far south as Luton, if one of the special trains went that far!
