My understanding is by about 1987, Jobfinder was being broadcast for an hour after Central closed, and then repeated the hour before TV-am started. Go figure.

There’s also this clip from Neil Miles’ YouTube channel of Tony Currie closing STV down one night, where he states the tesrcard starts at about 5:15am (at 28:20 into the clip).

Nick Hewer quits Countdown

I guess it gets recommissioned as it is dirt cheap to make. Plus it goes some way towards any quota to making programmes outside of London.

TV-am usually began at 6:55am on weekends between 1985 and August 1987. The problem is there isn’t much out there online as to what filled the gap between 6 and 6:55, if on air at all. Oracle on View did happen in 1987, as TV Ark has evidence of that on its site. There’s a clip here where Jobfinder remains on air until 6:14am, before handing over to TV-am:

Nick Hewer quits Countdown

Whilst Nick has certainly settled into the role, it’ll be good to see someone new at the helm. I’ll reserve judgement for Colin Murray (if he goes permanent) but whenever he’s been in dictionary corner his enthusiasm for the programme shows.

I always thought it was a shame Jeff Stelling left the show, he was the best host of Countdown post Whiteley.

Christmas TV 2020

The logos appear on the EPG on BT TV, and I have no problem with it. They seem to be updated correctly as and when too. Most recently That’s TV changed to That’s Christmas, and the logo was changed to reflect this. I guess it all depends on the implementation of it, having the right size slot to fit a logo is usually a good start.

Christmas TV 2020

I remember seeing Granpa a couple of times in the 1990’s, even after TVS ended. (But it wasn’t uncommon for TVS repeats to linger around for a few years.) That was a wonderful piece of film, but if you think the ending to The Snowman is sad, Granpa’s ending is ten times more upsetting, which I’m not sure many would be comfortable with whilst watching with their kids, at Christmas.

ITV’s coverage of Berbick Vs Tyson from November 1986, starting at 3:15am, followed with Central closing down 4:25am.

I’m guessing this is the type of thing not every region took due to the timing of the event?

Daytime TV in the UK

When the broadcasting rules were relaxed in 1972, ITV originally wanted the lunchtime News to start at 12:00pm, to allow a free flow of the schedule in the afternoon. However, ITN challenged this on the basis that if a major story was to come out of Parliament then it wouldn’t be reported on their bulletin and that the BBC would be able to (albeit on radio) with the World at One. ITN argued for a 1:00pm bulletin, eventually a compromise of 12:40pm was reached and First Report began in 1972. Due to its success, the bulletin moved to 1:00pm in 1974.

BT Sport - Launch of BT Sport Ultimate

dvboy posted:
Didn't realise AMC was still going , they removed it from Sky a while ago.

Neither did I until I switched to BT TV in September. It shows the odd good film and it also has out of watershed scheduling for some programmes, akin to Sky Atlantic and Comedy.

Coronation Street

I’ve liked how over Wednesday’s and the first of Thursday’s ITV3 episodes are set throughout the same evening. It really gave time for the main story of Alma’s kidnap to pad out and to be told without dragging itself out to be boring.
