Peacock ....

Unlikely, their main distribution system is Roku. When SkyX (their cutdown no 4K IPTV SkyQ system) comes to the UK maybe, but there's ZERO indication of that imminently, despite it's launch in Austria and recently Italy.

Though to be fair the 'distribution' system isn't tied to one platform is it? It will be standard DASH, HLS, HDS etc. streams distributed by a Sky or third party CDN, with a standard API or similar to navigate and discover content. Sky have a Roku App/Channel - but there is nothing to stop the same content being available to an alternative platform - which is presumably how NowTV apps are also available on Windows, MacOS etc. and on tvOS on Apple TV.

Freeview channels thread

JAS84 posted:

Eh? Really is showing Antiques Road Trip on channel 142 on my Sky box at the moment...

Yes really (pun intended). On the endboard of their promos it only says Freeview followed by the channel number, the same for Freesat.
So the channel is still available but is no longer on the EPG?

As I said - it's on Channel 142 on Sky - so it's in the EPG.

Astra 28.2 8K test

Though interestingly the video now appears to be Rec 709 not Rec 2020, and SDR not HDR.

Astra 28.2 8K test

Sorry - can't find the original thread where this was discussed, but the Astra 28.2 (i.e. same orbital position as Sky and Freesat) 8K test service has resumed.

https://en.kingofsat.net/tp.php?tp=519

It's 4320/50p HEVC/h.265 with Rec2020 gamut and HLG EOTF (i.e. it's SDR-compatible HDR)

http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?liste=1&live=69&lang=en&mux=11973

Bitrate is ~71Mbs, peaking at over 80Mbs?

The box was showing 52mbs

ffmpeg at the moment is reporting ~66-67Mbs as I stream and record the service via an IP feed of the transport stream.

Astra 28.2 8K test

is it still there my blindscanner went straight past the published kingofsat frequency.

Edit i found it, but the sound is jittery and it didnt show any video in VLC Sad

I think it depends on your platform and hardware specs. I get stuttery pictures and audio on VLC on my Mac using GigE connectivity from the tuner.

The BBC World News Thread

Otherwise, in the same conversation, Ben reveals that he’s now full-time with BBC Breakfast, and won’t be part of WorkLife, per se.

I'm presuming this is more due to Steph McGovern going on maternity leave after this run of Watchdog Live.

I think Steph is already on maternity leave from Breakfast.

Freeview channels thread

Really and Home moved transponder yesterday according to King of Sat : https://en.kingofsat.net/find.php?question=really

Were they previously sharing transponder capacity with the now-BBC-owned UKTV channels? Presumably they have moved to other space now they are separate?

ITV Daytime reshuffle

TCOTV posted:
Well they got more than a million people watching so that don’t surprise me.

Yep - though their ratings aren't as high as you might expect for a country with a population of 5x that of the UK. The US morning shows rate less than 4m at the moment. (Pro rata for population that's not far away from what GMB gets, and a lot lower than Breakfast)

International Sports Coverage

The action taken by Fox presumably means :

1. Dish subscribers couldn't see TNF games on either Fox or NFLN outlets - which means they couldn't see those matches at all on Dish. This will trigger a backlash against Dish potentially (including cancelled subscriptions) and put pressure on Dish to settle with Fox.

2. NFLN losing games on all platforms (not just Dish) because of the non-exclusive clause (as they WOULD have been exclusive on Dish) will also mean NFLN put pressure on Dish to settle with Fox?

ITV Daytime reshuffle

I just wish I could get an extra £150k for an extra 30mins of work.

If you fronted a show that stood to generate millions more in advertising per year due to that extra 30 minutes, you probably would.

That's not to mention the amount that ITV stand to save by not producing a replacement for Jeremy Kyle.

I wasn’t saying they shouldn’t have the money I was just shock by how much 30 mins can get you and wish I was in that line of work.

If you are shocked by that, some of the US morning anchors are reported to have negotiated deals of ~US$25m/year (Matt Lauer before he was fired is one)
