Don't think so, apparently the principle is already in place in Germany and Italy where they own the boxes, so applying it to Sky Q makes logical sense.
Of course with the SkyHD+ boxes, there was nothing to stop you taking it to pieces and putting a bigger hard drive in it. That won't be an option with Sky Q, though that being said HD video takes up an obscene amount of hard drive space (350hrs on a 2Tb drive, supposedly) and Ultra HD recording will take even more.
I can see a 2Tb drive filling up fairly quickly when UHD becomes the norm, and when you need/want a bigger drive because you don't own the equipment you have to go back to Sky to get new equipment. Nice future little money spinner?
Plus if you have a mini-box you will need to schedule recordings for both UHD and HD versions of content in UHD, as the Mini box can't play UHD recordings (it can't output UHD nor can it downscale internally - suspect it is H264 and MPEG 2 only)

Is it possible to purchase a Sky Q box and own it - last time I checked it looked like they were going down the 'permanent rental' solution?
