NOW TV

What is marketed as HD is really FHD. You'll find some US channels that use 'real' HD at 720/30 like Fox News or HLN.

In the US 720/59.94p is used by ABC, ESPN and Fox for their 'HD' output. NBC, CBS and PBS use 1080/59.94i for their 'HD' output. (Some affiliates of 1080i broadcasters cross convert to 720p to reduce bandwidth as 720p compresses better)

There wouldn't be much point broadcasting a 720p US outlet in 1080/25p (or 29.97p) in the UK unless that network was originating 1080i/p internally and cross-converting to 720p for TX (which is what lots of European 720p broadcasters do but I think fewer US networks do.)

Eurovision 2018

Be lovely if it was played by a full orchestra - even if a pre-record.

Good Morning Britain

Some of us have watched Antiques Roadshow long enough to know what a Credenza is...

NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC affiliates and TODAY

IIRC it was one unilateral feed.

I think you mean multilateral? In the case of an event where a single feed is made available - that single feed is the 'multi', not a 'uni'.

A unilateral is a feed specific for a single broadcaster - say a standup position for a reporter/presenter, or a camera specifically following something in an event for a single broadcaster (The BBC may have a unilateral feed of their own camera following a Brit running in a race, so that if the multilateral doesn't cover it well, you can fall back to the uni, at least for replays)

CBBC revive Saturday morning magazine show format

Never really understood the move to Glasgow for the summer - I'm guessing it was a kind of Salford-lite deal back in the early 90s to ensure some sort of Scottish quota was met, even if that meant basically shipping up a production team from London for the summer.

Quite a lot of the team were local - it helped train quite a lot of BBC Scotland people AIUI.

BBC News at Ten

Nitpicking here, but the UEFA logo changed six years ago...

I wish they'd stick to a wide shot of the screens like that more often, rather than the crop-zoom they tend to do.

If you can't see a presenter's eyes clearly, there's definitely a barrier though, it's like someone shouting at you from a distance. You'd naturally move closer to talk to someone - except you can't. The screens are wallpaper - the presenter is the important element in that shot.

Paramount Channel to launch in the UK

When I chose my last tv set, I looked at LG, Samsung and Sony models and personally on design and picture, the LG's and Samsung's were a lot better for the price than the usual black blandness from Sony.

Whenever I look at new LCD TVs I always hope that someone other than Sony will deliver a better quality picture. Each time I properly test them - the Sonys still perform better. (Ignoring OLEDs where things are a little bit different)

I buy purely on picture quality for the price I can afford though.

BBC News Channel Presentation - 21/03/16 onwards

Still, I wouldn't turn up to work in trainers no matter what the occasion. Maybe I'm old fashioned?

I wear them to work most days, as do most of my colleagues. You'll see a lot of them in the creative industries...

BBC News Channel Presentation - 21/03/16 onwards

I’m not usually one to comment on a newsreaders dress, but has Victoria got trainers on there?

Victoria isn't a newsreader - she's a presenter of an interview-based show.. I think she was dressed appropriately for an OB of the type she was presenting. This is 2018 not 1958... Jeans and trainers are practical, and if anything help remove a barrier between Victoria and the people she's talking to, and make her feel 'less different'.

Amazed it's even a 'thing'

ITV abandons the South Bank

Best lighting grid of any studio in the UK AIUI. Such a shame. Thank God the industry still has TC1.

.. and what often gets lost in the 'fog' is that all 3 main production studios had their lighting grids at the same height so lamps could be moved between studios on the same track system. The lamp/hoist etc maintenance workshop area was behind St3 at the same height so lamps could be trundled between studios 1 & 2 & 3 via the maintenance facility with minimal fuss. Super design.

Gold plated studios. Sadly we now live in a tin foil era...

ITV Daytime Graphics - This Morning

Hi guys,

Quick question: How does ITV manage to edit the titles of This Morning every day?
Is it done swiftly in the edit suite?

Think it's a Viz sequence, but I may be wrong.
