Jeremy Vine on 5

If I had ( and I often do !) employed a contract worker, on an agreement to provide a service to me, for a fixed term and price, and mid way through the term he tells me he has signed up to provide services to someone else, and could I adjust slightly my scope of works to allow him to fulfil the other engagement with more ease ( for him) I think I’d be a bit narked.

What would happen if you were also discussing reducing the pay of said contractor? (I have no idea if this is the case - but other high profile presenters have taken cuts recently)

I’m not surprised Matthew Bannister refused to give Chris Evans Fridays off, because of TFI

Though ironically - Radio 1 have decided to do just what Chris wanted now - as they are planning for Friday to be part of the weekend schedule, and the weekday Breakfast show to be Mon-Thu...

Does R2 still go into the news at the TOTH? I guess they could extend the bulletin slightly, and perhaps go straight into a song which should give him another 8 minutes, starting his show after 12?

Why would the Beeb make any concessions for a problem not of their making ?

To ensure the talent remains happy?

BBC News - Presentation Identity

In many way the 'fixed bong' era of BBC News ensured a pacy opening, and required rigour on the part of the headline writers to get a proper headline delivered in 5 seconds or so. (There was a single sound cue for the entire sequence, with the director running the headlines so that the VM could cut to them on the bong)

Sync sound was used very sparingly, and only when it really added to the headline sequence, and was a 'sit up and take notice' device.

The minute variable duration headlines were introduced - the headline sequences started to become very baggy... (With these the bong+following beds were triggered by the vision mixer cutting between headlines)

2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

I take it the late night highlight show studios will either be based at the Moscow Red Square studios, or Salford (BBC) and BT Sport/Timeline Television (ITV)?

I'd expect them all to come from Russia - as that is where the presentation talent is based - or at least be bookended by links from Russia?

That's the definitive Rupert. The theme song alone justifies that claim Smile

BBC Breakfast

Actually doing everything in one go, rather than painfully slow roll-outs, seems to be something of which Auntie Beeb is utterly incapable (c.f. Reith typeface, for example). Rolling Eyes

I do wonder if some English regions are having to try to find some floppy discs or 44MB Syquests to load Reith onto their ageing Astons... #joke #maybe

Or maybe they are waiting to roll out an Aston replacement (if Birmingham is running CasparCG then that would make sense)

Will there be any satellite feeds from the bbc/itv, I know the ebu ones are out of bounds Sad

I would expect the UHD stuff to be coming back via fibre. Wouldn't be surprised if there were SNG feeds knocking around - but BBC One/Two feeds may well be fibre. I wouldn't be surprised if the BBC and/or ITV used satellite as a backup and I wouldn't be surprised if they were BISS/BISS-E encoded...

2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Richard Henwood is presenting the highlights for ITV. Can't say I've ever heard of him and Google isn't providing many answers either.

Think he may be ex-Anglia. Rings lots of bells from the mid-to-late 90s.

TV Newsroom via Google suggests ex-Sky Sports more recently too.

Top of the Pops

I thought it might have been Trevor and Simon's replacements. I hadn't joined the Footlights dots - though should have done.

The new NEW Central West and BBC Midlands thread

Would it not just be a template in the editing system?

News edit systems I've known haven't had the greatest graphics capabilities, certainly not producing captions like the sort that a graphics system like Viz can put out. Desktop edits definitely not.

Though there are plugins for most NLEs from companies like Viz that allow similar templates to be used in post.

BBC World News | 30th October 2017 Onwards

I'd not appreciated just how low the ceiling height is in those areas until I saw those pics.
Must me a pain to light.

Yes - they are office-space conversions, rather than 'real' studios.

Standing presentation must challenge lighting yet further.

Those studios have often had less-than-ideal on-screen looks. 'Meet The Author' is recorded in one of them I believe - and never looks particularly great in vision and lighting terms. I guess controlling spill from office lighting and windows is a challenge.
