Peston on Sunday to move to Wednesdays

They have TC3 unused at the weekend also, but ITV don’t have a lot of live or magazine type programmes at the weekend.

TC3 is set-standing though. There is no way they are going to strike GMB or This Morning's sets for a weekend show.

ITV may not have many magazine shows - but other channels might have, and there is no reason for them to be live weekend shows. Money is money after all... If ITV Daytime have a studio free for 2 days, better to get some financial return on it than not surely?

But, ITV do not own TC3, they are only subletting it, so wouldn't there be a problem if they did try to use/sell TC3 space over the weekend? It is not their studio to rent out. It is BBC Studioworks right?

It's my understanding that ITV Daytime have bought out the studio permanently for the duration of the contract. It's their's to use 365 days of the year.

My understanding is, therefore, that it is likely to be ITV's to sublet - but there would obviously need to be discussions with Studioworks and payments for Studioworks crew who were needed to guarantee the facilities.

I may be wrong - but a buyout is a buyout.

(Unless the ITV/BBC deal means that ITV can sell back the space to the BBC for the BBC to re-sell, in return for a reduced contract payment)

Changes to BBC Parliament & Political Programming

Surely it is no more difficult than providing the quarter past opt in the news bulletins?

That doesn't vary regionally day-by-day though does it? The original suggestion was rotating the Sunday Politics region week-by-week, as Inside Out does. My response was that also varying the tease was a bit more problematic.

Are these opts live too currently - as we approach conference season?

Could UKTV be scrapped?

I think the BBC has a tough hill to climb in persuading audiences in the UK to subscribe just to watch content they've already watched on free-to-air TV (and feel they've already paid for)

Advertising funded FTA services like Dave 'feel' different to an audience, as I suspect does BBC content provided as a small part of Amazon and/or Netflix.

Hurricane Florence Coverage

Man that’s insane. Steerable sat-tracking dish in the radome?

Fox has these QRV’s (quick response vehicles). On the roof of the cab is a auto tracking dish for reliable live and drive. While the back has a regular dish allowing multiple feeds. I’m sure other networks have it. But it’s a modern Bloom Mobile. https://www.frontlinecomm.com/vehicle/qrv/

I'm guessing the cab dish is VSat or similar IP satellite connectivity. I don't think the mainstream SNG satellite operators are happy with mobile dishes on cars/vans, even with auto tracking, as the potential for inadvertently dual illuminating on a different satellite is too great. Plus you have to ensure you work safely at those transmission powers.

Peston on Sunday to move to Wednesdays

PMQs, The Budget, and all the best political news happens by Wednesday night, it will be live. The show will be over by midnight, and the studio team in TC2 will have 7/8 hours to get Lorraine's set ready, and it should be no problem, as TC2 manages to get the Loose Women set in and ready each weekday with less than 3 hours to get it done.

I thought the studios were big enough to have more than one set in? They stand all the time and don’t move about or have I misunderstood?

Only TC3 - which is larger than TC2 - runs 'set standing' as it has two permanent standing sets (GMB and This Morning have half the studio each)

TC2 is a much smaller studio than TC3 and runs 'set/strike' which means Lorraine is set, then Lorraine is struck, Loose Women is set, then Loose Women is struck. The two sets are designed to bet set and struck quickly, so a Peston set shouldn't be a major issue at the other end of the day.

Also with Peston now on a Wednesday, ITV Daytime have two consecutive dark days in TC2 each week (Sat and Sun). Wonder how long before other shows move in to fill that down time?

WOS Wrestling Ratings

In My Opinion, WOS Wrestling should really go on ITV4 and should be live. Then ITV could show a highlight show of WOS Wrestling on Saturday Night.

That would massively increase 'per episode' costs, whilst simultaneously moving the show to a channel with lower tariffs (i.e. a channel that has smaller 'per episode' budgets). Not sure that would work.

Good Morning Britain

Yep - and don't GMB, Lorraine, This Morning etc. deliver the right audience type for advertisers (and the incessant competitions must surely be significantly subsidising the shows too ?

Changes to BBC Parliament & Political Programming

BBC One HD is showing the London edition of Sunday Politics for the next two weeks, so unlike Inside Out which alternates, it'll be London as default on HD, allowing that region to not have to opt-out.

I'm guessing arranging different regional teases each week into the main show would be a potential issue if the regional shows are live?

What main show?

Marr. Main show was a poor choice of words, but I believe there was a regional opt tease for the Sunday Politics during Marr, about half-way through, or was I mistaken?

London's opt is a Juniper production for whatever reason (they make This Week) too.

I think it's always been a Juniper production. The regional production credits used to run during the end of the network show. The regional output isn't entirely exempt from independent production quotas.

Is the Sky Q box worth it?

The Astra UHD demo has a lot of heavily optimised, non-real-world content, purely designed for 'wow factor'
