CNN International & Domestic

Major breakdown on CNN at 9pm. After the business update up came a shot of the gallery. Then they went to a break then a caption came up saying "programing continues shortly" with a pretty view of world cities. Eventually Owen Thomas came up, apologised and carried on. It was off for about 5 minutes.

Bring back Owen Thomas! He was the best Morning News presenter.... though I'd doubt he'd want to go back to that since he's become a CNN star.

Is the age of TV news gimmicks over?

Everything in news goes round like a big wheel. We'll have "basic" for a while now... plain blue background, inset window, presenters sitting... remind you of the Six days with Sue Lawley..... and in a couple of years it'll all be flash bang wallop once again. Look at regional news... everyone was behind a desk in the 90s, then in came the sofas, and now the desks are coming back.
And yes... as for ITN's "Back to Basics", well they haven't got much of a choice after sacking most of the gfx department.
The only one not to be affected is GMTV. And god... doesn't it show.

BBC News - General

I don't understand why Louise Minchin is used so much on the domestics. She's OK, but Jane Hill is far far better.. journalistically, stylishly and with better looks and personality. Put Jane on the one, Sian on this Six and Kate on Breakfast. Sorted.

CNN International & Domestic

No, I don't think that's true - CNN is a really good watch with some excellent presenters. But you're absolutely right about Max, he's the bad apple that's dragging everything else down. What I don't understand is that they have really good people, like Adrian and Owen Thomas but they keep Max on. Owen is terribly under used, popping up as the stand-in on all the programmes - but he even brings Sasha alive when he does CNN Today.

CNN International & Domestic

The problem with BBC World is that oh my god, it is soooo dull! The presentation harks back to the 70s with old men barking stories at you about Rhodesia and Constantinople. Although the range of stories are very American at times on CNN, at least the thing's watchable with likeable and warm presenters.

ITV Morning News

Having just looked at the Morning News the other day for the first time in ages, I was just wondering why they bother? It's just a repeat of last night's news at 1030.
And on another point... have any of the newsreaders that have presented the programme ever gone on to seriously bigger and better things? The only one I can think of is Owen Thomas who's brightening up CNN.

What a shame. I thought they'd replaced Max with Owen. He's infinitely better.

He's very good. I just don't know why they continue to use Max Foster so much. CNN Today is a totally different and energised programme when Adrian or Owen Thomas is co-hosting.
