Sky News presentation - New studio onwards

Absolutely, Sky's coverage was incredible - benefiting from what I hope become a staple of future election nights, Lewis Goodall & Ed Conway. Really enjoyed their coverage, especially this year, with the slightly different setup.

Good job SkyGeek and the whole team!

BBC News | Presenter & Correspondent Reshuffles

James Longman is also heading to one of the big US outlets as well, as foreign news correspondent. Not sure which one, but he's leaving the BBC.

ABC News, apparently. Big loss for the BBC too.

A new 'Vote 2017' promo is running - potentially a glimpse of the set at the redressed Sky News Centre.

Does anyone know whats the plan for that space underneath the glass box, the place that was filled with Christmas trees over the festive period?

When you do see it, it just looks so empty

I originally thought that's where the new newsroom was going to be, however with pictures of it being in another building, apparently not

I believe it is a promotional space, also has some lifts at the back. It's certainly had the trees, and i'm sure there was also a promotion for 'The Young Pope'. Also, it hosted the Joshua v Klitschco press conference thing recently.

Eurovision 2017

Have we not had the voting order released yet?

What do you mean voting order? Like what country goes first or if they're using the same system they used last year for added drama?

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think the UK will do surprising well this year - although I've probably cursed it now. I've always said the songs that do best are the emotional and vaguely political ones and this one kind of is. It could be interpreted as a love song to the EU because of Brexit; could also be interpreted as a sorry for everything the UK has done to other countries?; when Lucie performs it she gets very emotional; has the end-credit finale feel, in other words you can picture it being performed as the show finishes.

French election: Second Round 7 May...

I don't follow French elections often but is it normal practice for the winner of whatever party to give an address at The Louvre?

From what Sky News were saying last night, the candidates decide where they will celebrate. Macron chose the Louvre whereas Le Pen chose somewhere outside of Paris, I can't quite remember where.

UK General Election

Sorry if that has already been discusses, but will the BBC be providing coverage on Thursday night/Friday evening for the local elections? I can't see anything in my TV guide. If there isn't any coverage, I presume it is because the elections are outside of London and the broadcasters do not care.

There will be a special edition of 'This Week' on Thursday night for the mayoral elections from 2345 to 0030 on BBC One.

Meanwhile, it appears the local elections will be declared and counted on Friday, so Huw Edwards will have the results from 9am to 1pm and again from 2 to 4 on BBC Two and on the BBC News channel until 6

UK General Election

P.S. I think this was touched upon earlier in the thread but given the local election poll falls in the lead up to the general election do any rules apply on polling day that would prevent extensive coverage being given to any campaigning by the leaders in relation to the general election.

That's actually a very good question. Parliament gets dissolved on Wednesday, meaning it will be formally GE campaign mode by LE day on Thursday, so I presume yes?

I think it is just polling day when polls, ironically, are forbidden from 6am to 10pm. Meanwhile during all campaign coverage there must be fair coverage of all the parties or candidates. For example, at the end of a report which may focus on Paul Nuttall standing in Boston it will probably say 'here's a list of all the candidates for that particular seat'.

So, my understanding is that polls are allowed apart from on the day we vote so it doesn't give tactical voting or whatever.
