ITV wants to axe some regional news services
from what I've heard ITVplc have no plans to hand over Southern Scotland to STV (a different company after all) and that the whole of the Lookaround region will go in with Tyne Tees.

North East Tonight and BBC Look North (NE&C) thread
the problem with Cumbria is that the North of the County (and the area where most folk live) has next to no identification with Manchester at all and tend to look across to Newcastle if anywhere at all. The south look to Manchester, that's why the service is split.

North West Tonight was tried in Cumbria, it was unpopular that's why they got Look North back. In the days of NWT, Cumbria got even less coverage and actually get quite a bit from Look North NE&C

Don't forget that ITV Border have now switched to taking Tyne Tees Soccernight instead of Granada and now show Dales Diary and Eric Robson's programme. Border's Lookaround may just as well become a third version of "North East (West really) Tonight".
And what is really strange is that the Tyne Tees Sunday afternoon filler programme where celebs reading children's books from the National Centre for Kids Books in Newcastle is shown on Border and Granada.
ITV's Big Clean Up

I must admit I would have expected the usual tiresome YTV-Tyne Tees production and Granada-Border. However recently they seem to have almost put TTTV in charge of a lot of Border output; the previous Border set was put together by Tyne Tees, and plenty of programmes have been TTTV-sourced in Border land. A pity for those viewers in Cumbria etc but that's the way ITV are now.
Is it that difficult for each franchise to produce its own programme? For pity's sake.

i suspect that they'll change the title sequence and maybe the tone of the show will alter a bit. Both versions are getting their own satelite trucks so I suppose they'll make more effort with reporters LIVE in locations. I think there maybe certain subtle changes in the show. After the retirement of Mike, I think they'll want to make to programme appeal maybe to a younger audience. (Especially in the North more urban part of the region -hence the younger "hipper" presentation team). Perhaps the one limiting factor of the "Mike Neville Show" was that it had a comfy but dated Regional News Magazine image. Watch out for more London Tonight style celeb stuff - it crept in a bit over the last few weeks with interviews with the likes of Will Young.

well Jonathan Morrell is taking over mid-mornings at Centrury FM soon, so perhaps he's taking some holidays before then, hence Ian doing both news and sport.

Didn't Phillipa just finish with Central on Friday. I suppose it wasnt likely she'd finish in Brum on the Friday and pop up in Gateshead monday. Thought Ian Payne did quite well during the serious news.

ITV Tyne Tees
the odd thing is that they keep the tynetees.tv going and the itvregions.com/tyne_tees one at the same time. The latter seems to fet updated now and again. You wonder what the point is.
