BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Some new presenter on BBC World News, Krupa something,

Can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone with that surname before.

Krupa Padhy, apparantly she’s presented before

Krupa Padhy, like Nkem Ifejika, Nuala McGovern, James Menendez and Ros Atkins (to name but some) are all current or previous BBC World Service Radio presenters - BBC World News TV seems a natural progression.

Will Ross and Mary Harper are BBC World Service Africa Editors based in NBH.

There are BBC World Service regional editors (two in each case) for East Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and The America’s (the latter covering Latin America) all permanently based in NBH.

It’s more of an analyst role than a correspondent.

And it seems Carrie Gracie will be doing this week's Dateline London in the next few minutes.

Carrie Gracey is also returning to her BBC roots, rejoining BBC World Service radio, presenting the weekly hour long discussion programme The Real Story (previously known as Newshour Extra).

Carrie Gracie resignation

This whole saga just gets more and more bizarre!

Will be interesting to see how long Carrie lasts on the News Channel. Wouldn't be at all surprised if her contract wasn't renewed when it expires.

I suspect that she is a staffer - in other words a permanent employee.

To be fair I don’t think Jon Sopel has reported on any of the countries outside the USA in his current role. It is very much a US focussed position. That isn’t a criticism of him by the way. It’s the reality of the job.

Will Grant in Havana tends to cover most Latin America & Caribbean stories, with occasional assistance from James Cook in LA, while South America is covered from São Paulo.

The only time that any of the Washington based team have visited the Caribbean of late was during the recent hurricanes.

Far more likely to be someone with experience of China, such as one of the current or former Beijing correspondents.

As for Carrie - she could go to radio as well such as Today or the World Service.

Carrie Gracie resignation

Can you resign from your role and move back to your previous role? Surely that role has either been filled or doesn't exist?

We don’t know the nature of her contract - she may have taken leave of absence or a secondment from her permanent newsroom role to be China Editor for a specific period.

If that were the case then it’s quite possible to resign the China post and return to the newsroom, in whatever guise that may end up being.

House posted:
Could anyone arguing Jon Sopel's North America brief is the most important please explain to me why it's worth up to (or over) £100,000 more than Katya Adler's Europe brief, please? Katya is routinely breaking news on one of the biggest and most important issues facing the country, and the news agenda clearly prioritises Brexit over American stories.

Because nobody has heard of Katya Adler.

Like it or not it's an industry where pay reflects profile as much as professionalism. In addition most Brexit coverage is done by the political team rather than the Europe Bureau.

Really??

I think that’s rather unfair - I’d argue she is well known having been around a long time as a BBC correspondent including a long spell in the Middle East.
