Jon Sopel will be a big loss to the presenting team, but an excellent choice for North America Editor. I hardly think he will present World News America - Mark Mardell never did.
The morning slot will surely be Geeta, as I said before.

Apart from a new set, which I suspect is out of RTE's budget range right now, how exactly would you change the format of the bulletin?
That format works for RTE - it's what Irish people are used to.

Just had a watch of Six One from Monday night, I am liking the revamped music and the opening titles are actually quite good. But the bulletin is still as slow as it normally is...

Surely Geeta Guru Murthy will just take over the slot rather than wholesale changes? She has been gradually doing more of the morning slots over the last few months, and I'd be fairly confident she will get the morning slot as her own.

Doing a long day as he presented Newsday at 06:00 on the World Service.

Not sure there's any need for BBCNI to do live coverage given that the BBC News Channel is doing that.

The Travel Show has been on going on BBC World for 2 months now - it is what was Fast Track.

No, yes and yes.
RTE News - Ireland
Is there any official word about the new RTE News theme tune being launched yet?
Also George Lee has taken up a new mantle as RTE's new Agriculture and Environment Correspondent. Did anyone see his first report about the UN report Climate Change on Monday Night?
Does that mean that he is off Prime Time now to be settled in his new role?

Really bizarre that, considering that they all work in the newsroom, which is located behind studio E?
Don't say things like that, you ruin their fantasies of the presenters turning up to BH moments before going on air and leaving straight after or being unpacked from a box just in time to present. Everyone knows that they don't do any work before or after their time in front of the camera, so why would they need to be in the newsroom.
And don't forget the importance of the "OMG! I saw a person off of TV doing something completely normal!" effect.
Indeed.

I had seen a shot of Tim Willcox walking behind Jane Secker while she was presenting the BBC News at Six yesterday when it approached the 22nd minute.
Unfortunately, I have no youtube clip to upload here but it will be interesting to see if other presenters were spotted while behind the main BBC News studio at other times when it was being broadcast from BH.

What an utterly sexist view of the world. You ought to be ashamed of yourself in this day and age. That frankly reeks of the Old Boys Gentleman's Club. Thankfully the world has moved on.
I can certainly give you a couple of examples - all of Ireland's presidential and election debates have been fronted by Miriam O'Callaghan on RTE, who also fronts Prime Time (the main political programme on RTE), and The Week in Politics - a weekly politics debate programme is also fronted by a woman.
The best person for the job, irrespective of sex should be appointed.
And if you look at many of the debates she hosts as I do they descent into farce with the 2011 presidential debate being a primary example of this. Its not a matter of being sexist but a simple fact is that male hosts are more likely to pertain more gravitas that female counterparts. It is no coincidence that all the great panel hosts throughout the years have been men and in my view there is a reason for this.
You must have been watching a different debate than I was. In fact it was the debate hosted by a man that descended into farce.
Miriam O'Callagham is well able to deal competently with any politician and get the necessary answers, as is Áine Lawlor. The fact that both of Ireland's premier political panel programmes are competently hosted by women sort of blows your theory out the window.

For panel debates such as Question Time a man can exert more control over proceedings. A panel debate hosted by a female tends to turn into a free for all with panelists talking over each other and chaos ensuing. Just think of all the great hosts for a moment and stop to consider how many are female? Very few feature in my esteemed opinion!
