Does anyone have any captures of what STV or UTV's GMTV bulletins look like? Do they look like GMTV News?

You can see the latest GMTV News NI bulletin at www.macmillanmedia.co.uk (go to the bottom of the page).

Just had a quick look round umpteen pages of that site. Plenty of info about the GMTV NI (& Scotland) bulletins, but I see no obvious link to actually watch them? Confused

When I click on the "Broadcast Centre" link, I get a "the webpage cannot be found" type of page. Confused

Looked great but wonder how long they will keep it like that for??

More to the point, I wonder how much longer GMTV will bother having regional news inserts at all ?

A few years ago when GMTV scrapped taking all the sub-regional variants of ITVplc regions, in favour of pan-regional only, I wondered if it was the beginning of a trend that would ultimately end with no regions during GMTV at all?

I can't imagine that the various regions themselves really appreciate having to have staff in that early in the morning, considering that it's only to produce three poxy little bulletins that are only - what - 2-3mins long or something, and then not do another bulletin until after 11am. They'd probably rather not have any staff in the building until at least, say, 8:30am or something.

Given that the general Ofcom trend has seemingly been to gradually relieve "channel 3" of its regional news obligations, I'm fairly sure that the GMTV inserts will be the next casualty.

And, of course, the "proper" broadcasters for NI and most of Scotland (i.e. UTV and STV) have already been relieved their GMTV obligations. Obviously the only reason that GMTV have had to substitute them with equivalent inserts from a random other news-provider is because they've still got all the ITVplc-area inserts, and couldn't very well have Scottish and Irish viewers seeing just a holding caption during those timeslots.

I'm convinced that regional bits within GMTV will be on-the-way-out, in the fairly near future.

ITV wants to axe some regional news services

p_c_u_k posted:
STV already has the setup for split news - they could just opt to the current Border Scotland region at the part of the programme where they normally split Glasgow/Edinburgh.

Do you reckon that STV would actually do the decent thing, and give the area its own sub-opt? (e.g. based in Dumfries or something)

Or do you reckon that the E and W halves of the area would just be lumped in with the existing Edinburgh and Glasgow sub-opts, respectively? Confused: Confused

Goodbye ATV/Central Studios

Hmm... what are the 4 coloured zones of that map?

All three Carlton Central sub-regions, plus the Carlton London region? (Seeings as it is a Carlton-branded sign. Although London is irrelevant in Birmingham... Rolling Eyes )

EDIT: Or different transmitter areas of the Central West sub-region? (Would it be that shape, pre-Herefordshire?)

Confused Shocked Rolling Eyes etc

What the hell has prompted this question? Your implication is that plans to axe the One have been announced. But we have heard no such news. If you have, then state so, and quote a source!

Five gets new look next spring

I quite like the idea of five being renamed as "rtl1", and the other two channels being "rtl2" and "rtl3" (dunno which would be which though).

They could compensate for the no-longer-descriptive channel names by heavily using slogans for a while around launch. E.g. something like:

"rtl2 - TV for the life you live"
"rtl3 - the best of the USA, here in the UK"

Or something.

Whichever one is the US channel could have the text of the logo written in US flag colours. E.g. the "r" and the top half of the "t" could be blue-with-white-stars, and the rest of the lettering could be red-and-white-horizontal stripes. Or something.
