Seeing as no-ones mentioned it, Matt Frei is to host the new BBC World News America bulletin with Katty Kay effectively swapping places with him. October 1st also sees the start of the new overnight World News Today with Philippa Thomas in Washington, the overnight presenter and someone else.

Sounds really interesting! Looking forward to it! Very Happy

The One Show

Useless Trivia time. Apparently the area just outside the windows behind where the presenters sit was the exact location of the Olympic Flame (or whatever the equivilent was then) for the 1908 Olympic Games which were held in the White City Stadium on which site the studio was built.

Yep. True

BBC North West Tonight

I think all regions should incorporate this style of opening titles. Not only do they incorporate the local place names of the 1999 relaunch, but also the pictures of local places from the 2002/03 relaunches and a hint of the nationals with the strong reds.

BBC London is the one region I think would benefit most.

Yep I totally agree!

BBC North West Tonight

WOW! Sorry but I'm a bit shoked at how good this revamp is! Best rgional new look since....well....since LDN!

Is this look being rolled out across the regions?

Bleeding hope so- it's a real mess down here in London at the minute!

Love the titles and music the best- set is decent too. Very Happy

Reporting Scotland

Anne MacKenzie Fan posted:
Another thing - we Scots call Reporting Scotland our national news and then term areas such as Tayside and North East Scotland local. London based news bosses class BBC Scotland as 'local'.

Well if BBC London can be classed as local then I assume BBC Scotland should be classed as local aswell!

Seeing as London has a population 20% bigger than that of Scotland! Wink

BBC News 24

I'm probably going to come under fire here for daring to criticise a newsreader, but I have to say, what a dull pair Kate Silverton and Simon McCoy are on the morning shift. I usually watch Breakfast but a few days this week I've watched the 09.00 hour on News 24 instead. They are just so dull and boring, with no evident onscreen personality/chemistry. I really do miss Philip Hayton and Anna Jones from the morning shift. I know Phil was fairly straight-laced but he did have a personality and presence onscreen. Anna was also an excellent and versatile journalist. If they have to have McCoy/Silverton, I'd rather they were on at a different time of the day. The morning shift needs presenters with charisma who aren't going to send you off to sleep again.

Are you sure you are watching the same channel as me?

I think they are great, they are really funny to watch. One might say they should not be on a News channel doing news but I love watching them.

Maybe it's just me. I always think Simon looks a bit bored or unenthusiastic (a bit like Jeremy Paxman), and Kate always seems to be fluffing her lines, at least she does whenever I'm watching. I just don't think they're the best pair on N24, especially compared to Matthew/Jane, Jon/Louise, etc.

I have to say when Simon and Carrie are on the morning shift it's fantastic! They have a great on-screen chemistry.

BBC News 24

The BBC has NO plans to axe News 24.

However I think some significant 'cost-cutting' is to occur.

Having had a couple of flicks to watch the new 7pm show, does anyone else think its trying sooo hard to compete with The One Show? Its really just like the 11.30 am Five news in the evening.

And another thing...it wouldn't be hard to guess that the new editor is a former editor of BBC Breakfast.... Laughing all this erm...fluffiness Wink

Between Early Winter and Late Spring. I can confirm that there will be some changes, nothing revolutionary, but some major tweaks on both N24 and World's part.
