The CBBC Thread

The only other reason could have been that there was a fight or disagreement between the TMiers that they didn't want to air! Laughing

Radio times seemed to think that last weeks show was ending at 9:20 instead of 9:40!

This weeks show end at 9:20

I reckon Serious Gameshow was cut, watching it back on iplayer you can notice a cut where they would normally say that the certain guest will be playing. I wonder if they had technical problems during that bit?

I doubt it was technical problems the programme was not live yesterday

EastEnders

Last night (Friday) episode was very well done, except was there any need to have the Ronnie/Joel stuff as well. Seemed a bit trivial compared to Stacey's condition

completely agree, why have no major punchy storylines for weeks then run two on the same night, the joel/ronnie stuff would have been good in it's own right, but like you say compared to the Stacey stuff seemed weak.

Watchdog brings back Annie

chris posted:
The first new look Nicky Campbell show in Sep 2001 was awful, music stings all over the place and wonky camera angles, they toned it down considerably after a few shows so I imagine they'll do the same here. Alistair McGowan did a superb parody of those early Campbell shows on his 2002 series ISTR...

This clip is a good example showing the end of one of Nicky's early Watchdogs with a cringeable promotion for next weeks show and EastEnders after he's already said goodnight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dubrpG5dl0Y

Pretty awful. That music was dreadful too, though I did like the dog idea; made it look like Watchdog was your consumer companion. The new titles make it look too like a a Rotweiler

I agree with the earlier post I had high hopes with Anne back at the helm. It used to be so direct and she wouldn't let company bosses get away with slack answers, unlike Nicky Campbell, but this new format stinks

Derren Brown: The Events

It's amazing how he can use misdirection to fool us. Anyone see him on stage on his live tour dressed as a gorilla? Classic misdirection!

Would you care to explain your definition of the word "misdirection"?

Why should they if you have ever seen him live you would understand. He doesn't do 'tricks'

Watchdog brings back Annie

I think this whole prgramme has been ruined. The Top Gear style set does not work, why the audience? They didn't get to have their say they stood there and did nothing.

They weren't an audience, they were all featured in the items (although not all of them needed to be there on the night)

Yep - invited guests would be a much better term.

mmmm yes but the point remains at the top they were set up as "being allowed to have there say tonight...." They didn't, they were featured in reports.....the point of them being stood there all night was.....?

Derren Brown: The Events

I don't believe this will be revealed as 'camera trickery' that would be so lame, the whole point of Derren Browns illsuions are they are just that, it will be that he didn't predict the numbers but through distraction made us believe he did. The whole thing is a misdirection, not the lottry part.

Yep - except that many of us watched both shows live and recorded both shows for later comparison. He didn't convince me that he'd predicted the lotter numbers, he convinced me that he had found a way of quickly getting the right balls on-set in a short period of time. The lame excuse to justify not showing the balls first was the deal breaker.

If he'd shown me his full prediction at any point prior to the last one being drawn I'd have been impressed. If the camera had moved as a handheld would normally I'd have been impressed.

I think what Derren does is very clever - he can do amazing things with misdirection and suggestion. Even cleverer is when he does things using other methods and convinces people he did them differently...

Agree with you there about the fact we didn't see his prediction until the balls had been drawn, that is the misdirection in fall swing.

Watchdog brings back Annie

I'm told by my other half who works in the media village it's in exactly the same space as before, but the working office part of the Watchdog studio has gone elsewhere. So now they're just filming a show in office space, which is a shame given there are a few decent studios down the road (no doubt more expensive though). Apparently it was recorded on Tuesday. Seems a very odd move as the show always used to close with a few email comments bringing things up to date, although no doubt it's to accommodate Anne's schedule which will presumably be very hectic indeed once Weakest Link moves to Scotland.

I think this whole prgramme has been ruined. The Top Gear style set does not work, why the audience? They didn't get to have their say they stood there and did nothing. Filmatic effect - big no no! In my book all of the reports featured were all non stories. The puschair review was strange it was like watching a live Which? magazine, Had anything actually gone wrong with any of the pushchairs in the report? Putting them on a buckin' Bronco was just naff and doesn't replicate real use anyway. Loading them with shopping on the back was pointless as they clearly stated makers tell you not to. The school uniform report was rubbish aswell, had there been any complaints then into the quality? Not from what they said. The Virgin Media report was the lowest point with a really tasteless song referring to dead people. Talk about dumbed down. I'm surprised Ann Robinson had anything to do with it. Great shame.

Derren Brown: The Events

...anybody reckon that all of these theories; rising ball, split screen, TV reflection etc. are all done deliberately to divert us from a more complex theory?

Yep - but that complex theory will be the diversion and maybe they won't explain the TV trickery they really used.

Derren Brown is a showman. He can do some great stuff live with suggestion (as do others). However he has also used TV "tricks" in the past to assist with some of his stuff.

BBC One

There were several short interruptions to The Big Questions this morning (at least 4 I think). The announcer on duty was Matthew Jackson and each time, he had barely apologised for the loss of the programme when he was able to reintroduce it! I think on the 3rd interruption he blamed some satellite problems. Presumably a large storm? Or a dodgy link from the scanner... No music was played (there wasn't time!).

The BBC want quick responses on air to any problems so that's what you end up with!

EastEnders

Dotty was in yesterdays programme as you should have seen clearly.

So where was she Tuesday? My points related to Tuesdays programme, as you should have seen, clearly.

You cannot see everyone in every episode, there is not enough time.

Please don't quote out of context I didn't actually ask where she was, a previous forum member did. Think it's self explanatory that you don't see every cast member in every episode.
