BBC News strike

stuartfanning posted:
14.00 Susan Osman presenting simulcast on BBC News 24 and BBC World. Wonder when she is going to be relieved?

This is what I was thinking, possibly 4pm? That will be 6 hours on air (she came on air at 10am i think)

BBC News strike

Someone has managed to get a report on the Baghdad car bomb together, probably the first piece of news to filter through since breakfast this morning. No piece to camera though, just a voice over, by James Mallet, not heard of him before though.

Media Guardian have put an update online regarding local newsrooms.....

Here's a snippet;

"Nearly 60% of BBC employees scheduled to come in today crossed picket lines to report for work as usual, according to the corporation.

However, this figure fell to only 29% in BBC TV, radio and regional programming newsrooms across the country, lending credence to what broadcasting unions said is "very solid support" for the 24-hour strike."

So what can we expect will be the next programme that will fall victim to the strike?? I would think that there wouldn't be too many problems for the rest of the day to be honest other than when BBC 3 and 4 go live at 7pm, and of course the 6 O'Clock news.

I don't expect that Susan Osmond would stay on air at News 24 all day, so surely there will be a new face there soon....

Other than those possible problems, the only other thing I can see causing a problem would be a major news story developing through the course of the day.

BBC News strike

Not a bad broadcast then for a makeshift. No regions, and a screen at the end stating that the next news is at 6pm. Thats that!

BBC News strike

Okay, so a good broadcast so far, with only two exceptions so far, wobbly cameras and crashing out of a report into an unprepared OB audibly saying "this isn't 24 is the One".

Not too bad in all respect

So, the 1 O'Clock is coming from the News 24 studio, although it looks like the BBC National News graphics, and there has already been an OB mess up.

News from Media Guardian regarding Terry Wogan;

"Terry Wogan today defended his decision to cross the picket line at the BBC, where workers are striking over 4,000 proposed job cuts.

The BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show host, who earlier presented his show, appeared at the Chelsea Flower Show later in the day and explained why he had gone into work as normal.

"Of course I have sympathy for them [the strikers] but I have a job to do. I am on a contract," he said."

They also mention that Picketers at the Chelsea flower show were ordered to move on becuase BBC Bosses complained that it was secondary picketing.

BBC News strike

Well, next up, the BBC One O'Clock News.....

Any guesses on who's presenting??

Could it be Susan who's on News 24? Could it be another picket line breaker, or maybe even a BBC Manager???

We'll know soon! Doesn't look like we are getting regional news though

Looks like the Chelsea flower show coverage is outsourced.

I don't think Andy Sturgeon was suppsoed to be presenting??

BBC News strike

The BBC are holding up very well, but lets take a look at the victims of the strike so far now that we are halfway through;

BBC News 24:- Holding up well, but a very stringy service compared to normal
BBC World:- Almost a total loss, relying on News 24 to keep going
The Daily Politics:- Cancelled, the Flying Gardner in its place
Radio 4's Today Programme:- Cancelled
BBC Breakfast:- Basically BBC News 24's stringy service
Radio Five Live:- Overnight relied on pre-recorded programming, breakfast was stringy, not sure on the rest of the day's output so far.

Just heard also that Working Lunch is Cancelled and The Egg: A Wildlife Guide presented by Keith Floyd is in its place.
