ITV1 joins the ITV News Channel

BBCNicky@Yorks posted:

I think ITV News is really getting a lot better this year, especially after the so-called "fluffy news stories" and critisism they got last year - also I think it's good that they stayed on the air all that time, updating viewers, etc...

There's a sinple explanation for that - Nigel Dacre left and David Mannion came back.

Micahel Parkinson on ITV1

nwtv2003 posted:

Though it doesn't look like a bad line up and Parky and on ITV1 tomorrow night, but an hour and a quarter is pushing it a bit, an hour at most really.

His BBC show ran for an hour didn't it (not 50 minutes) so 75 minutes including breaks should be about right. I think Parky said there were three breaks, although I may have got that wrong.

Parly repeats on UKsomethingorother are scheduled for 75 minute slots.

Olympics 2004 on the BBC

The other thing I remember about the 1988 games was Des Lynam had a book out - lots of facts and figures about the Olympics. He obviously didn't write it himself, but anyway. When he was doing the talk shows he said that if you were watching the games on the BBC this would be an ideal aide, and if you were watching them on the other side it was essential.

Oh how we laughed.

Olympics 2004 on the BBC

nwtv2003 posted:

Though it has been pointed out that other countries have the games on more than two TV channels, remember the 1988 when they were on BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4? The last time it was done and will probably not be the same again, as the BBC have got a deal which will probably last a lifetime.

Actually I'm not sure the Olympics were on BBC2 in 88, I seem to rmember all of the BBC's coverage was on BBC1 - leading them to call BBC1 "The Olympic Channel" which got right up ITV/C4's nose so that one or both of them started to call themselves "The Athletics Channel" - they shared UK Domestic athletics at the time and also took a joint approach to International Athletics.

Those were the days!

Maidstone Studios

If I've got my facts right, at 12000 sq ft that would make it bigger than Studio 1 at BBC TV Centre, bigger than Studio 1 at The Lonon Studios, and not far short of Fountain Studios' combined studio at Wembley - the biggest in Europe I believe.

Given the tendency for producers always now wanting to make their big shows in London, what do we think will get made in Maidstone? Presumably these guys have done their research, but it does seem odd to me.

Flash flooding in Cornwall

Whirley Burley was up in the air in her helicopter on Sky.

Not sure how much fuel that thing can take, but she was up from mid-morning to early afternoon. Presume they must've landed in a nearby field.
