Wow the new coming up animation looks great, just saw one with the promotion of its website before flipping over to whats next. The music that accompanied it's great too. I like the feel of it, not too American yet retaining the British style to it. Cool

I still would have liked the globe to be incorporated more. I think this is probably the end of that

Whilst I do like these changes, I can't help but feel I preferred the look of the channel when it relaunched last year. The globe graphics looked fresh and everything tied in well together, now it all looks a bit disjointed.

And I'm still not keen on Colin Brazier doing both Sky News Today shows. Much as I like him, personally, I don't feel he is suited to this slot, he's too slow. Sky News Today is starting to feel more like Snooze 24.

I completely agree with you, and yes it is beginning to get remarkably like news 24. Sometimes I'd just give anything to be able to take control of the channel for a day, and just do things my way, at least then I'd know whether what i think would work or whether it would just be crap.

I have to say i like these new animations, I mean its obvious where the influence comes from but its kind of a more sedate way, its not all flashy stuff, guns blazing out into the break. I would have prefered the backdrop to be something more along the lines of the globe though

Apparently The Five O'clock News Hour now regularly gets over double the viewers that Live At Five does...Just shows how much News 24 has improved in the past few years - incidentally, I hear more big changes are ahead in the next few months...

Maybe, but even the mighty BBC can only manage a handful more viewers a week than sky

JT is now on his own...this is becoming a regular thing ...so perhaps Anna might be returning to Sky News Today?....well, i can live in hope can't I?!

I saw those angles yesterday with the release of the MPs accounts, but the shots were framed incredibly tightly so you couldn't see anything really

really? some of the emails they read out would suggest otherwise - going on those, their audience come across as right-wing Daily Mail types.

Ahhh yes but its all about cultivating audience participation and therfore trying to get a gut reaction and if feeding views from a right-wing minority then so be it i suppose!?

Anna B presening sky news on her OWN!!!! (at the moment anyway)

On a more interesting note does anybody know whether the fact that they don't have any more 'adventurous' shots etc now is down to the more practical reason that they simply don't have the staff because of the cutbacks.

Also a slightly strained and hysterical new v/o for the sportsline bulletins this week i think...I'm not sure though.

As for the news screen behind them...it does its job...it displays pictures relating to the topic they are talking about. Just because they aren't standing 30cm away from it with a clipboard and a moving camera shot doesn't make it any less effective.

When I turn on mid story I can see at instantly what they are talking about just by looking at the image behind them.

But its whats made them different to the competition...and if you don't believe how well it wroks and is 'respected' by other broadcasters may I point you towards the ITV theatre of news thing and the current BBc news studio.

People say that its all about style , and take the mick, but thats exactly what it is about. Theres no point having the best news story or scoop in the world if you can't effectively preent the story in an imaginative, bold, and exciting new way. The newswall is that way, you said it yourself. As soon as you tune in, within a matter of seconds you can have a pretty good idea about what they're talking about.

The newswall is sky news, and reflects there audience on a daily basis. e.g. sky news attract a younger more liberal audience (apparently) to the BBc's older more conservative audience.

and the newswall, during the day, is usually used at least once.

Thats my point exactly - that is supposed to be one of the most iconic pices of eqipment that sky news has, something that can encapsulate the very essence of sky news with it simply being there and they only use it once a day - bah disgusting - now whilst I'm not saying that they should go anchoring the whole 24hrs from the newswall walkway there is such a thing as moderation

Can't help put think that it would look significantly better if they turned the desk the other way, pointing towards the newsroom. It's a vastly more interesting backdrop. They could even just perch the presenters at the end of the desk and leave it in the usual position.

Quite a good idea actually, that is the one thing that i miss about the old studio, you actaully had what looked to be like the proper newsroom behind the desk rather than just a bank of pcs
