BBC North West Tonight

I don't understand why people moan about the capital of culture. How could it be a bad thing? Regeneration, nation-wide publicity, international publicity, more tourists, more people wanting to live and work there, more money, richer city, which will lead to everyon's benefit as opportunities and the local economy picks up. This is a good thing - celebrate it. Sure Liverpool isn't the centre of the universe, but this is a big deal for the city. I thought it was quite poor that there was no continuous coverage of the opening the other day on tv - couldn't they have shown it on BBC Three or on the internet? As for NWT special titles, I thought they were quite good. North-West graphics in general used to be terrible - they seem to have someone competent in charge of them nowadays!

BBC News Rebrand - This Monday

New look for the regions too? They've only just rebranded North-West Today/Tonight, or could that be an indicator of how the other regions will go? I hope they get rid of the swirly things around the globe - I've never quite undertood what that design is meant to be.

BBC One

Why do they even bother putting any effort into the music? They let the first airing play out in full but after that they just talk over them so you can barely hear it. Ok, so it has some interesting shots of a helicopter but somehow it seems less sophisticated or interesting than the others. Shame the light from the lighthouse is so faint.

BBC One

Bad luck for the BBC in 2008 then - they've taken their festive presentation down before the twelfth night of Christmas - tut tut! They put them up early and take them down early - would it not be more sensible to stick to the proper dates of Christmas rather than do that?

New Years Eve ratings

London put on an amazing firework display last night which topped Sydney by a long way, yet the BBC still had a way of ruining it. It reminded me of their Millennium coverage when they missed entirely the centre-piece of the fireworks - the River of Fire and missed the Queen singing Auld Lang Syne. Why can they not cover fireworks properly? Half of it out of shot, constantly cutting from shot to shot (the dizzy effect which ruined Top of the Pops), focusing on the guys in the boats and on the fireworks behind Big Ben instead of the main display, and with some idiot talking drivel over the top of it...come on, learn to film them properly for next year!

BBC Radio

Not sure if the new look Word Service has been mentioned elsewhere? It's gone down the 'BBC Radio' route too. If they were going to do that, they could have used a circle somehow - a globe? I don't really see the point in the change, especially as it's still out of keeping with the main UK stations. Hopefully something will be done about the dated regional looks.

Terry Wogan's penis

Interesting comment on the daily mail website about this:

"This was obviously done on purpose. The floor director and camerman would have nolticed this gross image immediately, but did nothing about it. BBC staff need to be reprimanded seriously over this indecency. Wogan never did answer the question from one viewer as to how a certain person could appear "LIVE" in two distinct programmes run one after the other at different venues. BBC up to its unethical tricks again. As for Wogan himself, he was past it many years ago, seems to be hanging on and on. At best he is barely tolerable. Horribly corny and with an amateurish presentation, a really uncomfortable buffoon." - Robert Ducksworth, England

And I love their irrelevant details in the report, "Terry, who earns £xxx a year..." - how is that related?!!

BBC North West Tonight

Does no-one have any images of the Saturday and Sunday opening titles? Have only seen the breakfast, evening and late ones so far!
