Quick question; will E4 and M4 be available on Freesat upon its release, and will M4 be available on Freesat from Sky come October 10?

Media Guardian posted:
However, a Channel 4 spokesman indicated that the broadcaster would not be joining ITV and the BBC in a Freesat alliance in the immediate future.

"We broadly welcome any development that offers more UK homes the chance to receive the full range of digital services and creates more competition between platforms. We will watch how Freesat develops with interest," the spokesman said.

"However, we have carriage agreements for all our channels with Sky Digital and we have a number of years to run on these deals. We're happy with our current distribution deals with Sky and have no present plans to review these arrangements."

Make of that what you will.

They could I suppose launch More4 FTA from the start, but AFAIK there hasn't been anything said about whether or not they will.

BBC News 24

What changes could be made to the current News 24 schedule? What new programmes or news shows could they introduce to rival channels like Sky News? Give your ideal N24 schedule.

...or don't. Such things are mind-numbingly boring to read. Most people I'd guess read this thread to keep up on changes and developments on N24, not to trawl through endless pages of bizarre hypothetical presenter line-ups.

Have to agree with Matrix about the titles, the BBC are capable of producing graphics much better than the current News 24 titles, which have not fared well with age and were not all that great in the first place. N24 Tonight and even Newyddion show what the titles could be like.

I can never remember how to get things on it.

You have to change the date and time obviously, and lately it's a bit hit-and-miss. It's not working for that particular half hour at the moment.

The dancers on BBC1

DANCING IS TO STOP ON BBC1

BBC1 chiefs are to axe the controversial clips of dancers in between shows - but will not bring back its traditional globe logo.

They introduced the shots of young, ethnic, and disabled people dancing in March 2002 at a cost of £700,000.

The promos - known as idents - replaced BBC1's hot air baloon version of the spinning globe, which had been it's symbol since 1963.

The dancers and scenes of acrobats and rugby players were meant to reflect today's multicultural Britain.

But BBC1 controller Peter Fincham yesterday revealed there was change on the way.

He told the the Edingburgh TV Festival: "We are looking into this. It may well be that the time is coming to look at a new way of doing it."

Taken from Today's SUN on page 9

So there isn't neccessarily going to be a change then. Besides it's hardly good value for money if they are scrapped after just three years.

No, but were they ever good value for money? Even though he said may I think that was just because he probably didn't want to commit to anything. If he intended to leave the dancers as they were he probably wouldn't have said anything

Don't be so foolish. I really would not think that one ident would cost £700 000 to produce. 'It' being the whole group of idents. So if I were you, stop nitpicking and splitting hairs, like an old woman and discuss television...

Listen, I find this argument just as tedious as you pretend to, but I couldn't let you get away with condescendingly instructing the rest of us to have "common sense" about something that was misconstrued because of your mistake.

Despite the complete ****tiness of most of the dancer idents, I would miss Capoeira if they were axed. There's something about the way it's shot that looks really professional. It is simple, with just two dancers as a focal point and an early morning (or early afternoon?) backdrop of London. The other idents are way too crowded or tacky or both.

It looks professional because it cost 700 000 to produce.

BBC Two's idents cost around £2,500 each for an obvious reason. People dancing costing £700,000? I don't think so.

Excuse me but I didn't say they cost 700 000 each. I assumed you'd have the common sense to realise that I was referring to the full package of idents that were produced in 2002, and that you'd read the article that this featured in.

Your post implied that the idents cost £700,000 each because my post, which you quoted, was specifically about one ident, and because you said:

It was the first of the dancer set that I saw, and based on it I thought the rest might actually be good. Pity. I think it could even be a good standalone ident, although I realise it could get boring after a while.

Overall though, I agree with p_c_u_k and others, the logo should be central. This is hardly rocket science, I vaguely remember a mock by Lee S, in which he manged to make the logo more central to the idents. All it takes is some imagination.

Why? There are only 4 million people in Ireland, smaller than your average ITV or BBC region. The Six One news is almost an hour long and often has stories from around the country. Also, news on TG4 is almost entirely regionally-based, sometimes too much.

Well yeah, maybe I'm reading too much in to this.

Reason I posted though was that the there was an endcap of sorts that said Channel 4 News.

Instead of these closing titles:

thetvroom.com

there was a set with images and credits side by side, which finished saying Channel 4 News. If I'm being a complete idiot please let me know, but I can't believe I haven't seen the end of a weekday C4N since the relaunch.

Those Closing titles are only used for the 30 minute programmes. The longer programmes use the images/credits, usually followed by an animated website promotion slide, then the endcap.

Oh really. Well I feel quite stupid now.
