I'm not an expert so my assumption could be very wrong, but surely given the length of the newsflash and the fact that it only went out on BBC One, couldn't they have established a feed to Studio E, done the newsflash with the videoprinter staying on screen, and then handed back to Final Score.


It's probably easier to do it full screen at short notice.

Other options would have been to join the News Channel at 17:00 and move Final Score over to BBC Two, or join the News Channel after Final Score, and I reckon they may have done if there hadn't been a scheduled BBC One bulletin followed by regional news.

Last time I remember a news flash on BBC One during a sport programme:
