Challenge - June 2016 onwards
I watched the Max Bygraves repeats on Challenge a few years ago. Was amusing how often they had to repeat the prize sound when a contestant won because he missed it

Interesting film from 1987 showing the technology and logistics of bringing TV to the Northern Isles of Scotland. Pity about the poor sound quality which cuts out completely towards the end.

Yeah I do remember reading years ago that Val Lehman had negotiated in the contracts that the actors and actresses in the show would have to be paid royalties after a 3rd screening so the cost of the rights would probably be pushed up making it less attractive to broadcasters. I understand Amazon Prime now have Home & Away, Blue Heelers and All Saints on their streaming service so there may be hope yet for Prisoner.
When Channel 5 started it was partly owned by Pearson who were the owners of Thames TV and Grundy so presumably the rights to Prisoner would have been available quite cheaply to fill up the early schedule. They were also partly owned by United News & Media who owned Meridian Broadcasting and Anglia Television so there may be some truth in the theory that there was an agreement that Channel 5 weren’t allowed to overtake them while they were still screening Prisoner.
What was your favorite regional ITV station growing up?

As for another airing in the UK, I doubt it as the series has been released on DVD. Also as ITV technically showed it twice (Central being the only region to start a repeat run) im not sure whether its officially classed as being shown 3 times. Even though some areas of the UK didn't get 1 complete screening as Channel 5 wasn't available to everyone at the start.

I’m not sure if the ITV regions would have complained about Channel 5 screening it at the same time. Im thinking it was probably more to do with Channel 5 entering its ‘football, films and F**king’ era, the soft porn was likely getting more viewers than Prisoner so they expanded it to fill more days.
Strange that Ulster axed it maybe they just thought there was no point since Channel 5 were showing it anyway but I suppose they could have stopped it sooner if that was the case. They dropped it in the midst of the ‘barnhurst 5’ era so maybe they didn’t want to subject the audience to that
If they had continued Channel 5 would no doubt have completed its run before Ulster even did.
Shame for the folks in the Carlton region when they dropped it just before Lou Kelly’s riot and in Meridian when Rita had just arrived. I know the full series is on DVD but it hasn’t been on U.K. TV for over 19 years now surely it must be time for one of the countless digital channels or streaming services to get Prisoner on it!

Apparently some itv regions complained about prisoner being shown at the same time on Channel 5 however I doubt Ulster did as they axed prisoner around the same time as channel 5 moved it back to 440am. I wonder why Ulster axed it. They could have carried on showing it as they had a slot for it unlike when Meridian were forced to axe it due to lack of regional slot.

When Channel 5 moved Prisoner to the 11pm ish slot there were some nights when Ulster were showing it at the same time so if that was your region you could watch it on 2 analogue terrestrial channels at the same time. There can’t be many programmes that can boast that achievement on analogue terrestrial, especially an old Aussie soap opera!
Back then having 2 or more regions available really did feel like having an extra different channel as at certain times of the days the schedules were a lot more varied as was the presentation etc.

My region was Scottish Television, however, we were fortunate to have analogue cable in our area so we could receive Ulster TV as well as STV on the UHF relay system. It was great to be able to watch programmes at a different time if you missed it on one channel and with the Aussie soaps Ulster was quite far behind Scottish TV so it was good getting to see older episodes of Prisoner, S&D etc. Ulster also had the in-vision continuity long after STV scrapped it. Used to love watching Julian and his quirky anecdotes before Corrie and Prisoner also enjoyed the Kelly Show on a Friday night. I think at one point they started to broadcast Kelly on STV too. When Channel 5 moved Prisoner to the 11pm ish slot there were some nights when Ulster were showing it at the same time so if that was your region you could watch it on 2 analogue terrestrial channels at the same time. Could it be an indication that Sky One may be renamed as Sky TV and Sky Two axed?
New Sky channels: Crime, Comedy, Documentaries, Nature
Just had a notification on Facebook that a page I like, Sky One , has changed its name to Sky TV . The @SkyOne Twitter handle has also gone saying it doesn’t exist and initially redirected to @SkyTVCould it be an indication that Sky One may be renamed as Sky TV and Sky Two axed?

Looks like just a standard afternoon schedule on Channel 4 with Cheltenham Festival until 4:30pm then Countdown followed by Richard & Judy. Cheltenham coverage started on Filmfour at 4:15pm until 6pm.
