The Sky News Thread

I commented on the strange setup not the Tweet that linked the video.

Incidentally, the BARB figures are out for Burley's new show and unsurprisingly it doesn't make top the15. Stephen Dixon makes number one with the 8am half hour of his Sunday show and number eight for the 7.30am 30 minutes.

Bet Kay loves that!

This paste works for me!

Sky News forces guests to sit and listen while Kay & Co literally slag them off behind their backs, with no right of reply.

Does anyone else find this incredibly rude and distasteful? pic.twitter.com/LQzwFRuGx6

The Sky News Thread

This is new line of presentation, talking about your guest, literally behind their back!

We hear so much about how Conservatives damage democracy by not appearing on the likes of Radio 4 or Channel 4.

This is why.

Petty, rude and disrespectful attempts to humiliate a holder of one of the great offices of state from your breakfast show just to look good on Twitter. https://twitter.com/SocialM85897394/status/13057624787360030731

New AF Neil online venture 'The Week in 60 Minutes'

Now available on catch up on YouTube. A very good watch. Just needs a studio set up rather than Zoom. Can imagine this being bought by one of the new channels, if they ever launch.

New Discovery & Murdoch News Channels?

How do you measure bias? There's a few opinion polls every week and they all show the Conservatives in the lead. I've never seen Sky News report these or put the scores on the ticker. Yesterday, The Guardian had a poll that shows Conservative and Labour both on 40%. It's reported on Sky News and on the ticker.

If another poll is published showing the Conservatives in the lead it won't be reported or on the ticker.

I would say that poll was put on the ticker as it’s the first time the Conservatives haven’t been the single party to lead a poll in about a year, so it was fairly big news.

Oh well, it was an outlier. The latest poll from that pollster, Opinium, has the Tories back to a three point lead. Not reported by Sky News of course.

It’s my last day at @Channel4News today, and what an amazing three years it’s been, filled with wonderful people, podcasts and politics. I’m off to @SkyNews in Washington DC for election madness and whatever else is thrown our way 🤩 pic.twitter.com/DcQlwpUdNN

Cordelia Lynch also came from C4 News.

New Discovery & Murdoch News Channels?

Jon posted:
The Times outlets are there as the quality brand to give some respectability to the organisation. The Sun and to a lesser extent talkRADIO are the populist products for the masses.

Ah OK, so Murdoch bought The Times for respectability and not to make money?

New Discovery & Murdoch News Channels?

If Murdoch is as you say, why is there such a difference in political stance between Times Radio and TalkRadio? Which of his views does he want to be heard? This morning you had a choice between the leftish views of Jenny Kleeman and Luke Jones on Times or the right views of Julia Hartley-Brewer on Talk. Before she lost her regular gig on Sky Press Preview, Kleeman was always on to represent the left.

The two chairs do look especially odd.
I'd like to see a small interview desk that could be moved in and out as required.
For the whole 'lion's den' vibe that they're going for, I think a face to face desk interview (a la Sophy Ridge) would fit much better.

Here's some pics of something Good Morning America use for one-on-one interviews. I feel like something similar would work.

The current chairs just make it look a little awkward, people don’t know where to put hands, the chairs themselves are too low, the whole set up for interviews looks like something you’d expect from a soft area on GMB when interview a showbiz guest, not when a rolling news channel is grilling public figures.

...and putting their drinks on the floor looks especially naff!

10pm News Embargo

Good news for golf clubs with the colder weather coming! Currently, sitting in the bar post playing is restricted to two households per table. If three or four have played together it's separate tables or outside. From Monday up to six players from different households can share one table inside (complying with social distancing).

Same for post work drinks in a pub. In many ways this is a relaxation of the rules.

Quite honestly, for those of us still acting with common sense and taking precautions, nothing is changed by this. I've been keeping away from other people as much as possible, and will continue to do so. More than six in any environment has been off my radar since late February ! It'll be same for others like me. For the idiots and morons nothing will change their behaviour either, so all a non story really.

None of this is enforced anyway. I've seen people on public transport not wearing masks (or having them under their chin, eh ?!) The staff don't bat an eyelid, they get more scrutiny regarding the validity of their ticket.

Common sense! People are very selective about when they use it. Measures to restrict gatherings of people = iT’s So cOnFuSiNg. Eat Out to Help Out = restaurants packed. People are well aware of the rules when it suits them.

We did a couple of EOTHOs and they were Covid secure. One way systems, sanitizing stations, social distancing etc. Far better than having people round each other's houses.

It's changed for me. Us golfers can now go in the clubhouse and have drink after playing and sit at the same table, whereas before if there was four of us, we had to go outside.

Our club has put up gazebos outside, which is fine in the warm weather, but with colder days coming the club's revenue would have fallen drastically without this change.
