Government to hold daily UK televised press briefings

If you’re up for a laugh...

Of that lot I reckon Jayne Secker is about the best bet (in terms of likelihood against odds)

I can't see why she'd give up her job to become a Government spokesperson.

Bizarre call by Sky to ditch the Coronavirus press conference in favour of the FBI press conference on Ghislaine Maxwell.

And it wasn't even 'live', but 'latest'. More viewer interest though than ditching it for that funeral the other week.

Government to hold daily UK televised press briefings

I'm surprised to learn today that Downing Street already has an official post of Press Secretary, who is currently Rob Oxley. Why can't he front them?

If No.10 think this will be screened live everyday on the news channels they can think again.

Has he broadcasting experience? Isn't this going to be on the same lines as the current daily lobby briefings where journalists ask questions to a Government spokesperson?

I suppose a hybrid anchor/spokesperson is what they're looking for. Joey Jones, Alex Deane or Poppy Trowbridge would fit the bill.

The Times’ Radio Station after “BBC News Stars”

I wonder how long it'll be before the great Alastair Stewart gets a slot?

He's done radio before (a brief stint at 5 Live when it launched).

Would seem a natural home for him.

He's a semi-regular fill-in on TalkRadio.

The Times’ Radio Station after “BBC News Stars”

If Times Radio works I'm sure they'll change Talk Radio into 'The Sun Radio' and give that idea another go

Which is basically what it is in all but name at the moment.

Interesting that The Sun’s Tom Newton-Dunn is on Times Radio.

Edit: But I now see he’s left his role at the Sun. I’ve always thought he fancied himself as Andrew Neil.

TalkRadio is still sponsored by The Times, wonder if that will change?

Surely that falls as acceptable under guideline 5?

Quite the opposite I would have thought.

Blatantly ignoring it, I'd say.

I'm surprised Sky News presenters aren't wearing BLM badges, as the channel/company has gone full on board with it. Apart from the football presenters and pundits all wearing them, even the Sky Racing team from Ascot were, too. ITV Sport didn't.

Kay definitely an improvement on the various attempts they’ve tried since Eamonn went. I wonder if it’s been reflected in the ratings, which Sky is always incredibly secretive about.

Also I’d say losing Kay from the afternoon has made that part of the schedule sag.

Sky News' ratings are published by BARB and the public get to see the top 15 shows of the week. Haven't seen Burley's show or its predecessors there for ages. Eamonn featured quite heavily.

As for me, watched Sunrise from the beginning of Sky News with the likes of Penny Smith and Bob Friend, but since Burley started now listen to the radio. Pushing her political views on social media is going to far for a supposedly impartial broadcaster.

US Demonstrations | News Coverage

Sky News and BBC World News are showing coverage of George Floyd's funeral. NC is showing the Coronavirus Daily Briefing.

Bad decision from Sky Second time in a week they've annoyed me; last week they cut away from Boris Johnson to interview Jeremy Hunt. First time I've watched it on the BBC, bit annoying having the BSL bloke blocking the slides.

Newsnight

Bbc correction / clarification on the Newsnight / Maitlis statement from the other day. It clarifies that the problem with the monologue was that it claimed to represent public opinion as being shocked Cummings broke rules - and so cld have been perceived as partial.
