BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Roger Johnston on now....was he on before the bulletin at 10pm?

No, Roger JOHNSON (spelling!) started at 2215, standing up at the wall first, and then doing the rest of the shift normally. Not too sure who did Breakfast or morning shift - but I can say that James Dagwell did the overnight shift, and Karin Giannone did the BBC World News 5am programme with Juliette Foster - a quite funny TOTH as Juliette, in her heels looked almost twice the height of Karin! And Matthew Amroliwala and Jane Hill did the 11-2, with Jane Hill also doing a short version of The News At One.

Hello, just to say James Dagwell stayed until 0532, doing the full bulletin at 5am and the news summary at 5.30 when unusually Maryam Moshiri did World Business Report and the BBC World News programme by herself until 0600, she was joined by the guest for the newspaper review and did the UK headlines during the World break.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

But, bear in mind that where I was watching (or could have been if I was awake), it would be 4am, in which case Good Morning is the right thing to say. (However, it would have been noon in New Zealand, hence Good Afternoon would have been more appropriate..............................)

..............best just to have said "Hello".

I do agree, however, I don't think that the first hour of the overnight shift is simulcast on BBC World News? I think you get Peter Dobbie until 1am UKT?

But, it is morning..?

House, I completely agree - but I, personally, do find it quite odd!

Suprisingly, I must say that Roger Johnson is doing very well, and is proving to be a robust presenter - although his schedule hasn't been as hectic as a weekday political mad scene!!! He's a lot friendlier than some of the other lot, no OTT 'time-checking' and would like to see more of him.

On the NC; Simon McCoy took over from 4pm and then Mishal Husain did the BBC One bulletin (at 5pm) and now Roger Johnson's here at 9pm and will probably stay 'til midnight.

EDIT: Roger Johnson did indeed stay until midnight, with Mishal doing the BBC One bulletin at 10.30. James Dagwell took over at Midnight, and oddly enough said, "good morning!"

According to the Radio Times, it's a week of Kirsty and Gavin coming up! Maybe Paxman's off on University Challenge?

BBC News Channel: Presentation

woah posted:

By far the worst angle in BBC News is the one in N8 which shows the Barco - which is directly side on. It's so far zoomed out that the whole desk can be seen - and Zeinab Badawi and a few other presenters literally turn their whole body round to face the camera instead of just turning their head, which looks very, very uncomfortable.

No, I think Zeinab's side on shots are very good, they show the versatility of the studio, as a main point of thses shots represent the different programmes. Impact is done from the end of the desk closest to the Barco, so Mishal often is surrounded by an image; GMT is done with a standing up TOTH and 1230 from the Barco and the George sits about 2/3rds along the desk; The Hub is done from a podium next to the wall; Business Edition from the exact middle of the desk and Zeinab's usually 1/3rd to 1/2 down the desk, and spins on the chair to do the 1900 and 200 TOTHs. So I think it's quite effective - but does raise the question - isn't that studio boiling hot considering it's used sometimes roughly 19 hours a day non-stop!
