The Weather Thread

Anyone else notice that Sara Thornton did tonight's weather on Wales Today but Owain Wyn Evans did South Today? Odd swap there perhaps?!

Mishal Husain joins R4's Today programme

I must admit, I don't want Babita as Mishal's replacement... whenever she shows up on Newsday, I get the moody attitude from her, like she is saying "I don't deserve to be in this timeslot."

I've picked up on that too! She says "it's one in the morning in London," with her mouth but it looks as if she's saying, "Everything about this programme is beneath me, my co-presenters, the timeslot and the graphics, I'm just waiting until Zeinab retires," judging by her lack of visual expression, which is a shame because she was hands-down one of the best business presenters going on the NC.

I think she would be a good replacement for Impact though, provided that she did a bit more work out in the field - and in fairness, Newsday is a bit bland, most of the guests are professors from Midwestern US universities on a poor web connection, unlike Impact who manage to get a range of guests both in-studio and from Asia.

Sky News: Presenters & Rotas

Was Phillipa back at all after 1am?

Yes, Arron did 1am-2.32am (to start the CBS News), she returned at 2.45am for the headlines, and World News at 3am.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Earlier in the week/last week (can't remember!) Emily Maitlis made a similar blooper where upon the return from the xx45 headlines (where the presenters now read out the current bourse values to suffice for a 4-min business update) she sarcastically muttered, "well, that was really comprehensive!" True. So true.

BBC London TV News

I'd second that!

Compared to ITV's London virtual set-up, this one isn't as clear, attractive or as easy to look at in comparison. Then again, at least the BBC London programme doesn't take as much filler from surrounding regions as ITV do.

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

Nicholas Owen presented a special 5-6 hour block of programming on BBC Parliament called 'Beeching Night' analysing the highlights and controversies the British rail industry has faced since the report's publication, with reports in chronological order including extracts from Newsnight and Panorama. It was an interesting watch, and great to see a BBC newsreader tackle something they're actually interested in.

Woolwich Incident

CNN are playing out the entirety of the video handed into ITV News of the attack, without sound. Hala Gorani narrating - extended coverage at 7pm BST.

Sky News: Presentation Discussion

She's used it several times since it's been there! They just use one side.

Apologies, I must have missed that!

Indeed, yesterday, she used it for the 3.30pm half hour to interview the 'Charlie Bit My Finger' boys for YouTube's birthday, she kept going though, with several following stories, such as the horse doping, also being presented from there.

CNN International & Domestic

Following the Hong Kong studio revamp, the main (Atlanta) studio is finally getting a revamp, which means that programming is even coming from a spare set mainly used by HLN, the newsroom (in the CNN NewsCenter set-up) or Hong Kong (the Asia Morning sequence edition). Hopefully, this will mean widescreen/HD output, and let's not go crazy, but some actual news.

Since France 24 has become available on Virgin, I realise that more news with average presenters is better than less news with great presenters!

Al Jazeera English & Al Jazeera America

Maryam Nemazee back on Al Jazeera tonight, from London, probably still freelancing - but it's a shame to see her doing all these stand-in shifts as her Bloomberg programme, 'The Pulse' was excellent. As for the other Bloomberg cuts, Linzie Janis is now business correspondent on ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer, Owen Thomas is director of English business programming at SaxoBank in Copenhagen, heading up a new project SaxoTV, and Linda Yueh, of course, is at the BBC in Singapore.

BBC National/News Channel from New Broadcasting House

Any ideas why tonight's News At Ten lasted just 13-15 mins?
