Yeah, and was it me, or was there a green hue around the presenter's face. I know it's not a temp set, but it was quite noticable.
I notice something too. The studio has lots of red. And the camara position is different. The camara looks like it is up higher and looking down at the presenter. They made the changes over the weekend. The red looks like World news today ident. Just like the globe. Also the lower back of the presenter on the glass looks very bright and red.

Can you post a cap, Damo? I am intrigued to see who it is you are referring to.
Also, has Carol Smillie and the team from Changing Rooms been into the BBC World newsroom in the last couple of days? I am seeing a lot more red wall in the newsroom behind Peter Dobbie last night. Either that, or a very different principal camera angle is being used instead of the normal head-on shot. A lot more red wall over Peter's right shoulder.
Just curious. Perhaps thats why they were in TC7 on saturday.

On the 7pm BBC AMERICA news Phillipa Thomas announced that all next week the washington - london show will be comming from London. She then announced that they will be building a new set in Washington. According to her "American Set". Let's hope something swanky and cool though. I'm show they will have new graphics and music. Red Bee Media Creates Automated Promotional Graphics For BBC World With Pixel Promo DJ

Red Bee Media, working with Pixel Power, has developed and implemented an automated graphics and branding system which creates sophisticated interstitial sequences between programmes in a process it calls dynamic junctions (DJ).
It provides creative, tailored and varied information and branding sequences for the six variants of BBC World.
BBC World is distributed by satellite from Red Bee Media’s West London playout centre to broadcasters around the world. There are actually six different BBC World channels: a master programme and variants for Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia-Pacific and South Asia. The broadcasters who have the rights to BBC World in each territory can sell advertising around the programmes to local limits, and the schedule is designed to allow for this. The new DJ system allows for any difference in advertising durations across streams to be populated with relevant media providing solid branding and varied promotion. The DJ system also puts relevant graphics and trailers between programmes.
The Pixel Promo system interrogates the system automation to know which programmes are coming next, and also to obtain the future schedule. Based on this, it selects the appropriate sequences from a library of templates, and populates it with live data to fit the required duration.
As well as interrogating the station automation system, Pixel Promo DJ also has interfaces to a number of other internal and external sources of information, automatically collecting everything from the news headlines and weather forecast to stock market data.
Pixel Promo DJ runs on a Microsoft Windows Server with a SQL database. In the Red Bee Media installation there are six Pixel Power Clarity 500 graphics systems attached to it, one for each channel. Each is capable of creating and outputting sophisticated sequences in real time, including live video, DVE moves and separate voiceover tracks. Because each sequence is created specifically for each junction and assembled at the time of playout, all the station automation needs do is cue the appropriate Clarity, minimising the overhead on the automation system and eliminating the need for scheduling specific sequences.
“The dynamic junction system makes the difference between dull and repetitive promos which alienate an audience, and bright, lively and interesting graphics and branding,” said Neil Caldicott, Head of Presentation BBC World. “Pixel Power was the one company that understood the requirement for an output that was going to engage the audience, and the technical solution they have delivered is excellent.”
“The BBC World system is a great example of how we at Pixel Power can link excellent graphics capabilities with intelligent control,” said James Gilbert, managing director of Pixel Power“. Once the rules and templates are established, the system at Red Bee Media needs no overhead apart from editing video clips for trailers. Completely automatically – and without imposing on the scheduling or automation systems – it generates lively and varied content.”

Well u are right. The weather is so short. It is a mere 35 seconds. Before 2005 it was comprehensive and detailed, now due to them selling more commercials during the breaks they had to cut the weather. I always disliked the weather on news channels. I remember BBC WORLD did a survey in 2005. They wanted to know what people taught about weather on international news channels and i guess a lot of people dislike the idea. Since then they shorten the weather. Their major competitor goes crazy about the weather and huriccane.

Yep, I find the current weather forecasts too short and pointless at the end of 2005 they were fairly long and detailed, but now it feels like they last about 30seconds. And a new weather sting is needed!

From what I understand the 0300 WNT will at least be presented from Washington and I'd be surprised if it wasn't produced, at least in the main, there. So there would be scope for N24 to do their own thing although not much logic in it (except for breaking news).
Is the 0500 WNT continuing? If it is N8 could shut down at 0230 with the 0400 bulletin coming from Washington or N9. That would probably save a few pennies.
From what I gather, WORLD NEWS TODAY(7 pm et. , 00:00 gmt)and the other WNT(10pm et., 03:00 gmt) will come from Washington DC. BBC WORLD and BBC AMERICA have team up. They will both provide the budget for the program. That includes hiring staff, editors, producers and camara people. BBC AMERICA is forking a sizable chuck of the bill. Why can't the rest of those hours stay anchor from DC and Singapore with Asia today and Asia Business Repoprt comming from there? At 5 am uk time then the European breakfest starts. Let News 24 do their own thing.

When these changes come into effect, what will the logistics be? Currently, it's pretty straightforward: N9 produces BBC World between 0500-0100 UK time, with N8 taking the reigns between 0100-0500. Obviously overnight, there is only one team of people (I was at BBC World one night at 0030 and the gallery/studio was powered down and everyone went home) so what's going to happen with this new WNT at 0300? Will that be going out on News 24 as well, or will there have to be a separate team to produce that, whilst N24 carries on as usual (albeit without the international agenda, if World aren't watching)?

You've got that completely screwed up. For a start, the reason it was "full of India and Pakistan programmes" was due to the fact it was the 50th anniversary of independence of those countries. I would have thought that was fairly obvious, given the constant trailers, animated channel DOG as well as mentions in the news bulletins.
Secondly, BBC World is not aimed at British citizens abroad. It is aimed at English-speaking people living around the world, just as CNN International and Al Jazeera English. Those channels aren't for US and Arabic citizens living abroad, are they? BBC World does include some British news but only when it is important enough to warrant it. They treat Britain just like any other country in the world, something which I find quite refreshing. It's nice to be able to tune in to a news programme and get news from outside Britain, the USA and Iraq.
As for your rather generalised criticism of the channel's presenters, I completely disagree. I'd argue that the BBC World presenters are far better than at least half of the National/News 24 ones. The likes of Nik Gowing, Lyse Doucet, David Jessel, Alastair Yates are excellent journalists with a huge knowledge of international affairs.
I couldn't agree anyfurther Itsrobert, for her to say BBC WORLD anchors are second rated is an insult to the people who work hard everyday at BBC WORLD. They are professionals who are respected in their fields and are well rounded with diverse knowledge of international issues.
eg. You can take a BBC WORLD presenter and put him or her in a News24 chair and they will excel. eg. Johnathan charles, Mishal Husain, Nic Gowing even Lucy and Matinne will do wonderfully. You cann't do that with most of NEWS24 people they will stumble and crash when international news breaks. It is like comparing CNN US and CNNI. CNN US with the Multi-million dollar contracts, that comes with perks as clothing, hair and jewellry allowances. Is the quality in the presenters any different? NO.
If BBC WORLD had the same income or budget on the same level as NEWS24 and the national news then the visual, graphics and everything else will come together. That's the main difference between the two groups.
The majority of BBC presenters are good at what they do. That's why when AL Jazerra and CNNI wants people they hire ex BBC staff. Thats a testimony to the level of Journalism. You don't usually see it the other way. Right?
