I watched BBC World/News 24 simulcast and CNN and gotta say that BBC had the best coverage.
I think BBC coverage was well done. The pictures came in faster than CNN. CNN then not have access to the Reuters feed and news.
eg. the blast pics and the interview with Nawaz Sherif, even my ABC local station in Philadelphia was using the BBC interview in its coverage.

And simulcast or not - BBC World viewers could just put up with a few minutes of domestic news. Considering they'd chosen to get their news from the BBC, I don't think they'd be an issue.
This is the BBC not separate news sources. They all share the same resources in crises like this. Why will New24 home stories be any more important than WORLD global stories, that they will have to put up a few minutes to know what was happening in the north of England. . This is the number one story all around the world today and I saw it wise for them to stick with the story.

Almost every one is on holiday how will they cover it effectively. This was the same time when the Tsunami happened and news channels were caught off guard. I thought the program was made specifically for the US audience on BBC AMERICA. BBC AMERICA is helping with most of the funding if I were them I will be mad. The program serves as a lead into primetime if you are not getting a certian figure your primetime will suffer for 2 weeks around the holidays. I am sure there are serious commercial and business opportunity that needs to be address.

And, in any case, if there are any major US political developments during these 10 days, they will still be covered by BBC World. It's just you won't have a dedicated programme for US viewers. Anyway, pre-September 2007 you only got a semi-dedicated programme (i.e. Washington/London co-pres) and pre-2002, you only got what the rest of us get around the world - a normal BBC News bulletin.

At the end of every year BBC WORLD schedule is disrupted. Why is it that way? In the US on BBC AMERICA before WNA the announcer says BBC WORLD News America will be back on january 2, 2008. I think that will put regular viewers away especially in the US. That program is produce mainly for the American market from Washington . After all, major political developments are coming up in the US next week. This week is really important to the lead up. Why come back on the day of the primaries when they should have lead the viewers to the primary night and promoted the program as an alternative to the America News channels. Most people who watch the BBC here are loyal fans including me. It is like a ritual when I get from work and school. These 10 or so days may seem short but viewing habits can change quickly.
AJI and the other news channels always seem to manage their schedule and no holiday will affect their output. If it was christmas eve /christmas day; new year eve/ new years day, that affected the schedule, that will be reasonable, not 11 to 12 days of disruption.
I agree with you there, they put such emphasis on the launch of the programme and now they've scrapped it on a very important week for US politics.
That was what I was trying to say. When BBC launch the program back in october they focused on politics and the built up to the US Primaries in January. They wanted to give an outsiders view of the process. This is the last scretch here. You don't go away. I thought when Matt was off the last week and the half and Katty was in, he was on Holiday to be back just in time for the first Primary vote in Iowa. To my surprise he will be off for almost 3 weeks. No US Tv personality will do that. It is like Wolf Blitzer from CNN leaving for 3 weeks and then coming for Election day coverage. Audiences in the US like to see reporters and Anchors on the ground covering and reporting the story. I know he is not a TV star in the US by any means comparable to Wolf or the network stars but I thought he was the face for the BBC political coverage in the US.

If the presenter's gone walkabouts someone pages them before the bulletin goes on air.
I supposed she would have known that it was her time to present and not go on walkabouts. Maybe she was in a meeting or finishing an assignment.

All the biz presenters are excellent in their roles except Michelle Florry(sp). She is not quick enough to grap the little jokes or the lead in her other presenter will give her. I really miss Dharshini David, so witty. Tanya have really grown on me.

Tanya looks quite different in the video when compared to the caps above. I think all the biz presenters who double up as newscasters are very good indeed - Tanya, Manisha Tank, Maryam Moshiri and Juliette Foster. And let's not forget that Mishal Husain started out as a Biz Presenter on BBC World too!

Did anyone notice Tanya did BBC NEWS at the top of the hour and at the bottom of the hour Mishal Husain came and did Asia Today. I wonder why Mishal didn't start out her shift with the regular BBC NEWS.
Tanya was excellent though but I love every chance I have to see the beautiful Mishal.

What about nisha pillai and geeta guru murthy?
And has maya even been on world since her dtints last year?
You are correct, looknorth. Geeta did a weekend shift just last week. Nisha Pillai never does weekends, IIRC.
I seem to recall Nisha presenting on a weekend but it was only once or twice and several years ago at that. She generally sticks to weekdays.
Other weekend presenters over the years have included David Jessel (when he first started on BBC World), George Eykyn (regularly presented the Sunday morning shift c.2002), Ben Brown and Keshini Navaratnam. Lyse Doucet and Martine Dennis also did weekend shifts in c.2000/2001.
I'll see if I can think of any more.
Lucy Hockings has also been a regular weekend presenter for quite a long time in 2003-2004-2005 along with Adrian Finighan and Anita McNaught, who -by the way- should explain to the world why on earth she is now working for Foxnews after long years at the BBC.
Does anyone know how often she appears on Fox? Because I really can't imagine her doing Foxnews-style reports.
Not very much, pure Faux News propoganda. Only when Hamas fire at Isreal or there is a statement from the Isreali government she will appear on Faux for a brief 90 sec readout report approved by Faux.

I haven't seen her on the channel for many weeks now. I recall the time on World where we would religiously see the same 3 presenters working EVERY weekend - Adrian Finighan, Anita McNaught and Mike Embley.
Lately, weekend shifts have taken on a whole new meaning of the word variety - Mike Embley, Martine Dennis, Julian Marshall, Juliette Foster, Maryam Moshiri, Navdeep Dhariwal, Claire Marshall, Tanya Beckett, Tony Campion, Alastair Yates, Tim Willcox, Manisha Tank, Karin Gianonne...................
......haven't seen Anya Sitaram for quite a while actually.

Karin is normally on N24 was ahe overnighting last night?
The last couple of weeks she and Tim have been doing lots of shifts on the weekend at BBC WORLD. It have been a pleasure watching she and Tim on the weekends.
I like how they tell you what is coming up and in what region that program will be shown. Some of the other anchors don't tell you that. Viewers have to wait or hope that it is in the conmmercial break. The main person who doesn't is Nadip Dahwiah(sp) she doesn't time herself well. It is always arkward after her bulletin.
Alaister is always on the money. He will go far as giving you the background of what was going to be shown.
