Baroness Thatcher has died

Where did Chris and Joanna go just before 1pm? Chris was speaking right up until the moment Sian came on screen, as there was no countdown or anything between the News at 1 and the 12pm newshour.

Maybe just the otherside of the studio?

Baroness Thatcher has died

Imagine if this has happened at the same time on Monday three weeks ago....!

Probably the worse nightmare of those planning the move from TVC to NBH.

could not agree with u more...a disaster possibly...

No - don't think it would have been a disaster. They'd been rehearsing for a good couple of months before the launch date and I'm also sure they will have had some sort of plan in place if there was a major breaking news story in the couple of hours before the switchover.

BBC National/News Channel from New Broadcasting House

Will be interesting to see how the News Channel and Studio E copes with the first major breaking news story of NBH in Thatchers death...

From a viewers point of view, it looks fine - they've probably had a lot of rehearsals for major news stories

Baroness Thatcher has died

I happen to know that the funeral has been in the planning for at least the last three years, with service sheets almost ready to be printed for the last two years or so. Last I heard, the music staff of St Paul's were debating whether to include the whole of Elgar's Cello Concerto before the service, or just part of it - they were down to that level of planning. So, there should be nothing stopping the funeral taking place as soon as is desired by the family/state/etc...

Yes - there has been quite a few things about it in the press over the last few years...

Yes ...

Baroness Thatcher to receive "ceremonial funeral with military honours at St Paul's Cathedral",

BBC Breaking on Twitter.

No state funeral (as she won't lie in State) - it will be a cermonial funeral.

Baroness Thatcher has died

Will there be a state funeral?

See my post above:

Funeral: not a full state funeral...she won't lie in State. Ceremonial funeral - same as the Queen Mother.
Service at St Paul's. No date yet

Is it an illusion or are the Beeb managing to get a few more high-profile guests into the studio for interviews, rather than doing them DTL?

Could be the location of NBH - more central than White City (Television Centre).

BBC News: Presenters & Rotas

So Carrie Gracie flying solo this morning on BBC News (without that trying to sound like something a Radio 1 DJ would say). Simon McCoy, I've concluded - from his Twitter feed and my observations - only appears every other Friday. Whilst I'd expect him to do today of all celebrated days of the year he's absent but I'm sure will make up for it on Monday.

If Carrie continues to 1pm it would be impressive. I hope today is treated like a weekend-like-day for BBC News. A shortage of presenters, please, and no - no Gavin Grey or Chris Rogers, today, thank you very much. Whilst they are both fine in presenting skill I find the strike days and last-minute vacancies are the only options for them at the moment. They're facing stiff competition.

On Good Friday last year, just so you know, we had this:
0900 Tim Willcox
1100 Tim Willcox & Julia Somerville
1400 Sophie Long
1830 Julian Worricker
2230 Chris Rogers
This year will be different, I'm sure.

When was the last time that Julia was on BBC news?
