Designers of old regional ITV logos

The Westcountry identity from 1993-1999 was designed and implemented by Ortmans Young; a company which also designed the Pro Sieben rotating-earth identity and the BBC World Service TV ident featuring three simultaneously rotating globes.
The original Central identity (1982) was designed by Minale Tattersfield whilst the Central Cake logo was mainly the creation of Jim Stokoe, who also designed the original fox kids identity.

ITV Takeover

Well, at least KKR isn't a typical investment company. In fact, I welcome a takeover; especially if it results in new management! Charles Allen and his cronies really should go.

BBC regional news presentation

Quote:

It wasn't that great under the later LNN days. Back in 1993 when it launched it was excellent .

For me, the most bewildering decision made when moving to ITN was not to employ Anna Maria Ashe, Paul Green and Marcus Powell.
Also, the decision to become more tabloid clearly remains a mistake: BBC London almost constantly gains higher ratings than London Tonight.

I think the peak for London Tonight was around 1998, when the programme had decently produced news and features and interesting features about culture andthe arts.
I especially miss the 13:00 edition of London Today: great presenter, hard news and often a live performance at the end!

What old recordings have you found?

The most obscure-yet-interesting video I have features an edition of CBBC from around Christmas 1990, presented by Andi Peters and Edd the Duck from the BBC props department!
It includes Tony Heart acting as the giant in the Heartbeat Christmas pantomine and also Andi interviewing Kylie Minogue (in the props room) and Tony Robinson talking about his new single: a remix of "I'm walking in the air"! Following this is an episode of Newsround presented by a very young Krishan Guru-Murthy, and the recording concludes with a trailer for Christmas on 1.
Absolutely wonderful!

BBC 1 & 2 Engineering Closedown: Fri 7th Jan 05

So, where does the Oxford transmitter receive transmissions from on these occasions?
Does it recieve directly from Crystal Palace or perhaps Hannington (or even Sandy Heath!)?

ITV1 fault into 1050 news

As the South Bank team assembles the network feed, it is safe to say that if they weren't able to join it, noone else did!
Isn't centralised presentation such a breakthrough!

It seems that it will launch in 2006.

Resolution Of Channels On Sky Digital

I remember reading that ITV 1 broadcasts at a lower resolution on Sky Digital than most other mainstream channels. Does anyone know what this resolution is? Also, in perfect reception conditions, does the compression scheme used by ITV on freeview produce higher quality pictures than ITV's compression scheme on Sky?
Finally, somewhat related to this, when is Sky going to launch the high definition service announced last year?

Five News

The set is fine, but isn't suitable for five news. As someone said earlier, it looks designed for newsround or an entertainment news programme.
Also, does anyone know what the five news reporters not hired by Sky are going to do? In particular, what will Ben Ando and Gary Rogers (the former editor) be doing in the new year?

Which members work in TV news

I work for the BBC.....................in my dream

You should do something about it. Judging from your posts on here, you seem to have really detailed knowledge and a definate interest in the technical operation of television. You certainly seem to have a more detailed knowledge of television operations than some of the people I have met in the industry. What can you lose in trying?

TV Home closure

Quote:

Not for quite a while yet. It'll be shown off with the new Archive section (almost finished!) first to get people's opinions and if it goes down relatively well then I'll do it for the Mocks section and eventually the rest of the site.

An MDR classic remarks section would definately be an amusing addition.

Big Brother 6 to run for 15 weeks

That this programme remains so popular is truly worrying. It clearly demonstrates how stupid so many people are.
I totally admit that I found Big Brother 1 compelling television. It was an untried (in Britain) experiment which was thoroughly interesting. However, after five series, it is just so predictable and dull.
As channel 4 claims to be a public service broadcaster, why don't they sell the rights to ITV and just allow it to rot there. They must realise that it peaked at the end of its first series and has just declined since.
