This Morning

What does it matter *who* is behind the decision? The logic is sound. Holly & Philip are the brand (particularly Holly) and what bring in the advertisers. Eamon and Ruth are perfectly competent but they don’t have the same appeal. Holly represents an aspirational image and lifestyle.

Not denying that Phillip and Holly attract a very wide audience.

My point is that if time and money can be spent on creating generic opening titles, such as those used last year for the summer run, with no reference to Phillip & Holly, why has there been no effort to create opening titles with a picture of Eamonn & Ruth at the end (just like they previously used prior to the 2015 refresh)?

Hopefully, the studio move will see a refresh of the titles.

I'd been really interested to know who is actually behind the decision not to give Eamonn and Ruth their own titles (whatever the quality in comparison to the normal) - management deciding that Phil and Holly are the brand or the talent dictating the rules.

It is a bit of a joke considering that if you are a regular viewer, you know who Eamonn and Ruth are and I'm sure many wonder why they don't have their own version. Indeed, for irregular viewers, they may watch never seeing Phil and Holly!

They'll have to change the titles this summer as the generic ones used last year are wholly based on studio 8.

This Morning

The opening titles for yesterday's Mother's Day special with Eamonn & Ruth:

Seeing this made me think - could something like this be done for the summer run (i.e. when the audience is fully aware (or, at least, should be) that Phillip & Holly are away), with various This Morning family faces in the picture frames, accompanied by what is coming up on the show, followed by an image of Eamonn & Ruth?

I know that this is similar to opening titles of years gone by (most recently, having photos of the presenters appearing at the end), but it would provide a less generic sequence for presenters who, in my opinion, are far more than just stand-ins.

The generic Phillip & Holly sequence would still work in February and October when there are variations in the half-term holidays, but seeing two presenters walk towards a studio in the opening titles and then be met with two other presenters actually presenting is really bizarre (I can't image what less informed viewers think!).

Just to point out, this isn't a dig at either pair of presenters...I absolutely love watching both Phillip & Holly and Eamonn & Ruth; this is just a suggestion to aid continuity, so to speak.

Sky News: Presenters & Rotas

She and Anna Botting are my favourites at Sky now, so glad they both do the Evening News and Press Preview slots.

They've both made the evening slots their own. Whenever either Anna Botting/Jones is absent, it really shows (not a reflection on whoever is covering for them, I should add). Mind you, this applies to other presenters as well - Kay certainly being one of them.
BFGArmy and EastEngland gave kudos

It's already been shown before last month on a Ruth and Eamonn edition.

It's on their YouTube here:

Ah, many thanks.

Sky Q problems

It does get worse, however: I've just remembered that I had a radio recording from Heart, featuring a birthday message from Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston... Thumbs down Bloody technology! Rolling Eyes

You could try writing to Global for a copy as most shows seem to keep their output (42 days initially for Ofcom and presumably for a long while after if those "we replay what we did this year" type of inserts are anything to go by). Dunno how radio speech works copyright-wise but the worst they can say is "no".

Certainly worth a try!

Sky Q problems

Thanks for the replies, folks. It's just a huge surprise that such a fault has occurred with a relatively new box, although, as VMPhil pointed out, it can happen to anyone at any time.

I concede that I've overreacted with reference to the films as they'll most probably be repeated somewhere at some point...I'll take your advice, UKnews, on things that I really want to keep.

Sky Q problems

Sounds to me like the hard drive has failed, which obviously you don’t want to happen so soon, but unfortunately can happen to any device that has a hard drive. My original Virgin TiVo for example only lasted a couple of years before the hard drive went - in comparison the replacement I’ve had has lasted five years.

So, I suppose it's a case of the luck of the draw?

What irritates me is that they wouldn't offer any sort of goodwill gesture in response to this. Vouchers to purchase at least one film that was removed from my box would have been at least something! As you say, such a fault can happen to anyone's box, but a new (and, dare I say it, top of the range) box should be reliable for more than a year.

Sky Q problems

After having the box for less than a year, as of Monday I was unable to access any of my recordings, use the Catch Up service or pause/rewind owing to a problem with the Hard Disk Drive. Now, if this was an old box such an issue wouldn't come as much of a surprise, but, as mentioned, we haven't even had this for 12 months.

Anyway, we contacted the support teams and, eventually, the only option was to reset the entire thing, removing all recordings. This included films that I had recorded from ITV and Channel 4 (Four Lions, for instance); bearing in mind that this was before Christmas and most of my films are no longer available without purchasing them.

So, the point of this thread: well, firstly, for anyone who has just purchased a Sky Q box thinking it's wonderful, make sure you aren't too attached to any films/programmes that you have recorded; and, more importantly, should I go wangling for a voucher, or some sort of discount, to enable me to re-download the films I had that have now been deleted because my box couldn't even last for a year without failing?

This Morning

Let's clarify once and for all.

The new This Morning studio (Studio 2) will be located on the first floor, overlooking the Thames. It's distinguishable in the artist's impression by having floor to ceiling blacked out windows.

The new GMB studio (Studio 1) will be located just behind Studio 2.

The new Loose Women/Lorraine studio (Studio 3) will be located in the basement, with the audience entrance located roughly where the footbridge currently connects Studio 8 to TLS.

Thanks for posting that image Thumbs up As I say, I've missed a lot of posts on this subject in the other thread, so the visual plans are completely new to me and much appreciated!

I'm glad the new studio will overlook the Thames. Such a background is key to the programme (especially since 2015).
